A conversation with my Uber driver about abortions
American Thinker ^ | 10/20/2019 | John Eidson

...Me: "Do you know how abortions are performed?"

Uber driver: "Not really."

Me. "Well, for example, in a second-trimester surgical abortion, the abortion doctor uses what's called a Sopher clamp, an instrument with serrated teeth on the business end. The abortion doctor uses the Sopher clamp to probe inside the patient's womb. When he feels something, he clamps down and pulls hard, and out comes an arm or a —"

Before I could finish the sentence, my Uber driver raised his hand and pleaded, "Please, please. I don't want to hear any more!"

Shocked by a gruesome fact he'd never heard, this opinionated Millennial didn't have the slightest clue of how horrifying abortion procedures are, especially in the second and third trimesters.... .

Why would anyone talk to an Uber driver about anything?

Well, most humans assume Uber drivers are human and worthy of being spoken to.... unlike a few folks who believe Uber drivers are mindless idiots.

Now that your question has been answered, we can continue to explain further....

Each person who becomes pro-life eventually speaks to another person and this said communication will eventually give one or more persons the opportunity to learn something, and perhaps help them to see things in a different light.

You DO see wait staff as humans, don’t you?

Well I do Lyft part-time and I have had convos with my riders that covers everything from marriage to politics.

I have a 5.0 rating, 2 proposals and one local political run for school board under my belt.

Just after WW2, the allies made the German people see the concentration camps to understand the enormity of what they supported. The same should be done in this country regarding abortion.

Wow, you completely misunderstood what I said.

I don't start conversations with strangers (humans) about abortion, religion, politics or anything else. I just want to get where I'm going. How 'bout them Broncos?

Having said all that, I would never take an Uber anyway.

Most people live in a bubble where they never have to think about how laws or sausages are made or what goes on in abortion clinics or socialist countries. The evening news will sanitize reality and hide the real dirt from them and that’s the way they like it.

Just curious. What percent of the black vote do you think President Trump will get in 2020?

That's cool, I know and like you. Couple years ago when I broke my leg, I had to rely on a ride service to get me around.

It was 'Yellow Cab', and every driver said they much preferred medical transport to actual cab service.

The author of this piece sounds like he starts every conversation with anyone with 'abortion abortion abortion'. Of course abortion's bad, but starting every conversation with it just turns people off.

“ Courtesy of Democrats, Planned Parenthood receives a half-billion dollars a year of public funding.”

There have been times when the Republicans controlled the House, Senate and White House and Planned Parenthood received funding.

Therefore, abortion must also be courtesy of the Republicans.

Yes. Somehow that kind of public service message should be spread through every medium. Of course the left would object but isn’t abortion about the health of a woman? If EVERYONE was shown the gruesome act of abortion it would be outlawed in a New York minute.

A lot of the Uber and Lyft drivers in my hometown are military veterans. I very much enjoy talking with them, and other drivers, about a wide range of matters. For example, did you know that a new rideshare company provides drivers a way to earn literally thousands more each month? And every driver will earn stock options, too. This new company has announced that the regular driver sign-up fee will be waived for U.S. military veterans and active duty military too. In addition, the company is waiving the normal monthly driver subscription fee for these folks until after their local market has been open for 90 days.

That's cool, as a veteran I support that.

I'm talking about the author of this piece, who apparently starts every conversation with abortion. I just think easing into the subject is a better approach than in your face from the start.

You DO see wait staff as humans, don’t you?

I don't talk politics with people who prepare and deliver my food, because of how radical leftists tend to behave towards people they disagree with.

For similar reasons, I would not talk politics with somebody who knows where I live, if he might be a radical Leftist.

Never understood how there could be so much pro-abortion when it certainly seems anti-constitutional. It seems to me that the two are in direct conflict. Nothing I can see in the Constitution that is pro-abortion.
