Why it's so scary when Trump tweets about civil war
CNN Opinion ^ | September 30, 2019 | Nicole Hemmer

President Donald Trump tweeted and retweeted 80 times between Friday and Sunday, a seemingly panicked flurry of activity that showed just how big a threat the Ukraine scandal and impeachment inquiry are. Among those tweets was a quote from Fox News contributor Robert Jeffress, an evangelical pastor from Texas, who warned that if Trump were successfully removed from office, civil war would follow.

Apocalyptic rhetoric often flows readily from preachers' pulpits and politicians' platforms. Yet this warning of a looming civil war takes on a different meaning when it appears on the President's Twitter feed -- not only because of the office he holds, but because he regularly packages his over-the-top doomsaying with specific calls for political violence. He is a president whose words and actions have helped inspire acts of domestic terrorism, like the mass shooting in El Paso in which 22 people were murdered. In an environment in which people have demonstrated a willingness to turn his words into "war," this is particularly reckless and threatening.

Much of the debate around Trump's tweet has centered on whether he is dog-whistling to violent groups who promote white supremacy or is just being sloppy. The burden of the presidency, though, is that it doesn't really matter. When the President invokes violence -- as in a civil war -- he sends encouragement to supporters already primed to perceive a coming apocalypse.

Nicole, you start by blaming the El Paso shooter on Trump. The El Paso shooter was arguably an extremist Green who bought into the need for a UBI, which is a Dem Socialist platform plank. Nicole, you are Fake News.

And Nicole darling, we on the Right own a few hundred million firearms and up towards a trillion rounds of ammunition. If we were inherently violent, you’d have heard about it by now.

Now don’t push us. I recommend reading Kipling’s The Beginnings and substitute The Right for The English.

Prove it sister. Back it up with facts that prove your point. Because I think you are lying.

No, he is warning against it. He sees the same thing many of us do.

Dumb Tw@t.

If there’s going to be a civil war,the blame rests squarely on the left. Americans basically want to be left alone and live in peace w and prosper. We want the rule of law followed and enforced equally. We haven’t gotten a lot of this lately and with the promises of the Rat candidates it looks like we’ll get even less. I can’t see any other logical conclusion to this mess than some sort of civil violence. The left won’t quit their insane quest of a communist utopia.

It’s so scary to CNN because DemocRats and Satanists don’t like to hear the truth. They are especially fearful of anything spoken by a Christian leader like Jeffress.

In any case, he said it would produce a Civil War-like division of the country (into two opposing groups incapable of cooperating). Anybody who has had even basic American history knows what this means.

Of course, one of the problems is that our modern little wokesters are too busy learning about the “sufferings” of the privileged gay class, the inherent evil of the European descent (“white”) population, etc. So having forgotten history, I guess that means we’re condemned to repeat it.

What’s scary is the way the left foments civil war with its high-handed actions.

It is really scary when the media, including you CNN, can’t see what you’re doing with your hatred by causing a civil war scenario to develop. Stop, and stop now before all hell breaks loose. What part of STOP do you NOT understand?

Well the crap the dems are pulling is exactly the stuff that triggers civil wars. Overturning an election and confiscating guns does not play well in America. I’m actually fine with peaceful secession. I really don’t want to share my country with these evil people any more.
