Texas lawmakers added more than $6.5 billion new dollars to public education, allocating more total state funding to education than ever before. There’s a lot of interest in where all the money is going.
The biggest recipients of education funding are public school districts, which receive financing from both state coffers and locally-collected taxes. But charter schools, public schools that are funded entirely by the state, will benefit, as well.
Charter schools are given more autonomy in exchange for academic and innovative results. Because charter schools are another school option for many students, they help provide a crucial impact on education in Texas—competition. Competition drives growth, innovation, and it improves results. Fostering healthy competition between charter and traditional public schools, with the added effect of private options, empowers parents, students, and even teachers.

wouldn’t need continuing extra amounts of money if root problems were addressed, but instead it’s throw more money at it and hope for different result.
a few root problems:
some kids don’t want to learn - just putting in their time hoping to get through.
some teachers are not “teacher” material or teaching grade levels or subjects they are not well suited for.
some teachers are on auto pilot in how they teach, don’t care whether kids are actually learning.
It’s hugely on the parent(s) to help kids understand importance of learning and learning things well not just to pass a grade.
plenty of other root issues that more money for schools will not fix.

Agree with both comments. The teachers unions are the root cause of most of our educational problems.
To the first; why not Charter Vocational schools for those who are not motivated towards academics? The trades are seeing a high rate of retirements and replacement rate isn’t keeping up. So, there’s a big demand for skilled labor of all types. And, the pay is good.
To the second; this is a huge problem. Teachers teaching STEM’s courses that they are clueless in. And, of course their unions protects them. I’m a big proponent of vouchers. And, combined with Charter Schools, new start up of private schools, allowing people with proper degrees to teach even though they don’t have a worthless Teaching certificate, would solve most of this problem.
Public Schools compete for leftist indoctrination NOT scholastic excellence.
Yes the path should be academic or trades...
STEM should be under academics
Non-academics should be hands on learning in the trades.
I think all the double-speak in “education” is a way to jive talk and shake down taxpayers
Charter Schools are a start, we need private schools and vouchers/tax credits to spawn a whole new type of competition. I do think if we offer tax credits then the private schools will have to be non-religious schools.
