Buying Greenland would be even a bigger coup than the Louisiana Purchase itself.

I think Denmark is holding out for a much bigger deal.
They’ll sell Greenland to the U.S., if the U.S. is willing to allow Denmark to join the union and become the 51st state.

All of the refugees seem to be heading North. perhaps we should aid them in that quest. It’ll be tough to make a living but if they are really determined, I’m sure it will all work out. Start deporting illegals there and let the exodus begin.
I’d rather suggest they just deed it over to the U.S. We fortify the island, guaranteeing to defend Denmark from attack. No cash changes hands but Denmark is relieved of the $700LARGE annual expense.

I bet he’ll get to buy it. And I hope so. It’s all US military and intelligence right now anyway, so we’re already renting it and that’s most of their income from it. There’s a few thousand Inuits and Danes there, but even with that, Denmark isn’t breaking even on it.
This could be a lovely new frontier for us. Set up a duty free zone and it could be the Andorra of the North, although with a hideous climate, which might then spur research into new technologies...the place is probably stuffed with geothermal energy, judging by its hot springs.

You put those Greenlanders who’ve lived there, together with a bit of US “Get’er done” then stand back. If they want to be real Americans they’ll hit it out of the park. Hard to say what’s really under that ice.
I wouldn’t want Poland to join the US. They are still a conservative country, and I want to keep it that way.
I bet commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross could put together a plan, that would get Greenland in the black in just a few years.
Just one of the many world class capabilities that the USA could bring to the table, to benefit Greenlanders.
