America’s Late-stage Decadence
International Man ^ | july, 2019 | Doug Casey

It’s bizarre—perverse, really—that the people doing the most whining about cultural appropriation by Americans don’t actually have worthwhile cultures themselves. The fact of the matter is that the only culture in the history of the world that amounts to anything is that of Western civilization. The West has given all of humanity concepts like freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of the press, free markets, individualism, science, and rationality. In addition, the West has created almost all of the world’s great music, literature, architecture, and philosophy

That’s absolutely true of Africa. Africans should be eternally grateful to the West if, when da Gama was rounding the Cape in the 15th century, he’d just thrown out a wheel. But he would have also had to throw out an instruction book. But nobody could read it, because the entire continent south of the Sahara was illiterate.

This is true of most of the primitive world. I hesitate to say “developing world” because development is solely due to imported capital and expertise. If that inflow stops, Africa could go back to the bush, with mass starvation.

Long article. (he is a "buy gold, move to some foreign, almost craphole, country guy.)

I am amused by his take on africa and south of the border.

He'll probably be de-platformed.

The fact that Westerners are ashamed of their culture is a sign of the collapse of the West.

People who move to struggling third world countries might have a point. They might be looking for more honesty. Better to be honest about being a struggling third world country, than to make-believe about still being what had made a first world country what it was. He doesn't mention Christianity, but that, or rather its departure (in strength, if not nominally) is the elephant in our living room. Science? Yes, science. The spiritual impetus for science and technology is in the divine command to subdue the (wild, unharnessed) earth. Relatively recent controversies about science vs. faith do not adequately take into account what a faith book needs to be in order to make sense to all generations. A faith book may use viewpoints that later science cannot grasp directly, nor should we be disappointed that later science cannot grasp it directly.

Yeah I’ll say, and no kidding I don’t stay awake about it at nights, but some European countries did a number on Africans with slavery and raping resources etc.

Before someone goes nuts, honest, I don’t care that it happened. That’s life.

But it did happen.

Maybe they never wanted the knowledge we brought them :)

“doesn’t mention Christianity”

Yes, that is one thing that would help these countries, but how to get rid of the corruption of the current rulers and racist hate for the previous colonial powers? South Africa is Zimbabwe 2.0

It’s a challenge.

“Send more missionaries to Africa” sounds to me like the only real answer.

I think the previous colonial powers did come with mixed motives. They tried to worship both God and mammon. The result was often cruel.

Whatever way that these new missionaries present Christianity, it can’t look like the nominal religion of the colonial powers, or it will, not might, go over like a lead balloon.

And also, if a good Christian movement could begin among the parts of Africa that are still conversant with the Western world, that will make it easier to see it spread into the jungles. You can’t try to invite both God and Belial — irreconcilable rivals — into your picture and then expect an expansion of that picture to look like anything good.

And — Africa did have a lot of natural riches. Rare gems and gold.

The righteous thing to have done with this would have been to raise these things to the glory of God. There never would have been the ethical question of “blood diamonds” if that had been done, for example. And Africa would be proudly exporting “fine African diamonds” not just generic diamonds, as well as possibly building cathedrals all studded with these African riches out of gratitude to God for having furnished them in the first place. Africa could have SUCH a different face, if that face were turned towards God.

The Chinese have been quietly moving in to Africa. Their methods will be a bit different.

“The word “decadence” is often associated with the fall of the Roman Empire, which became morally corrupt—its people lazy, wasteful, and lacking discipline. Many observers have pointed out the US is similarly becoming decadent. How do you see it?”

Without a doubt.

This recent post in FR is absolute proof - a look at what today passes for “family”... and its consequences.

The good news is that sooner than later reality will get its revenge. The bad news is - it won’t be pretty.
