President Trump's ongoing diplomatic efforts with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are reminiscent of former President Richard Nixon opening a channel with China, according to K.T. McFarland.
The president's handshake with Kim is similar to Nixon's iconic photograph with China's Communist then-leader Mao Zedong, McFarland claimed Monday on "Fox News @Night."
"In 1972, there was a picture of Richard Nixon and Mao Zedong, who was president of China, and the two of them by shaking that hand, it gave the signal to all the Chinese people that things have changed -- we now have a good relationship with America -- they're now our friends and we're now going to have peace and prosperity," she said.

I wish K.T. was taking Sarah Sanders place.
That would be superb!
Glad someone is speaking out against the thugs who made fun of our President.

Old Vulcan proverb. Only Nixon can go to China
President Nixon met Chou En-Lai
Figures the idiots as faux news get it wrong
fox has really turned out to be a bs media outlet.
Cut the cable folks.
Fox tried to derail President Trump’s candidacy by putting megan kelly and bret baeir up to doing a shameful character assassination on him.
If they were successful, and they could easily have been, Hillary would have been President!
Think about that before you give any time, money, or energy to these traitors.
“President Nixon met Chou En-Lai
Figures the idiots as faux news get it wrong”
President Nixon met Mao AND Chou En Lai on February 21, 1972. Though that was the only meeting with Mao, and it only lasted about an hour, Nixon had several meetings with Premier Chou En Lai between February 21-28, 1972.

Mao had been in bad health and left the hospital only nine days before the meeting. He ignored his advisors because he felt the meeting with Nixon was important.
I stand corrected on meeting Mao then.
I personally have likened President Trump’s meeting with Kim to Nixon opening the doors to China, which is widely regarded as his time with Chou En-Lai.
I don’t know obviously but I suspect meeting with Mao was out of courtesy and a sign of respect. Chou En-Lai was THE meeting that would shape the future of Sino-American relations.
So - did Charles Creitz mean President Trump’s groundbreaking meeting with Kim was pretty much like Nixon’s symbolic meeting with Mao, or did Mr. Creitz regard this as momentous as RMH opening the doors to China?
I was under the impression Mr. Creitz thought this (Trump-Kim) to be momentous; on par with the Nixon-Chau discussions, dinners, etc.
Therefore Mao probably shouldn’t have even been mentioned.
I think the meeting with Mao was the important one. In it Mao hit the major points of what any agreement with Nixon would cover. IMVHO Mao wanted to make sure the talks between Chou and Nixon covered what he (Mao) wanted covered.
Though in bad health Mao was still the strong man in China. Nothing happened without his approval. By taking that first meeting with Nixon he was putting both Chou and Nixon on notice as to what he would approve. He gave Chou very little wiggle room.
Dictaters are kinda like that.
This is all just my opinion.
Either way President Trump stepping into North Korea to meet Kim is, to borrow a Bidenism, a Big F’n Deal.
Those simple steps across the border gave Kim big face with his people and especially his generals.
Propaganda wise Kim can now negotiate on a level field instead of being seen as a weakling bowing before the superior American.
Even though the entire world, including Kim, knows we could wipe out NK 10,000 times over, just by propping the guys status at home makes it much less likely we’ll have to.
This meeting was like the Nixon/Mao meeting, they painted the broad strokes. Now the underlings will fill in the details.
Point well taken.
Thanks for taking the time to write that.
You’re welcome.
