The doctor treating quadriplegic patient Vincent Lambert, 42, at the University Hospital in Reims, France is taking food and water away from him today, beginning the process of Lambert's death.
The parents of mentally disabled patient Vincent Lambert, injured in a 2008 motorcycle accident, won a reprieve on May 20th hours after food and water was withdrawn.
That's when the Court of Appeal of Paris ruled to stop the killing until a UN panel could review Lambert's case.
But late last Friday (at 5 pm) France's highest court, the Court of Cassation, overturned the lower court ruling......

Who are these people and why should we care?
The taking of human life should matter and has mattered for years here at FR. Vincent Lambert is a French version of Terri Schiavo to be more to the point.
This is a story about the taking of human life for what it’s worth and even more so about the devaluation of human life.
This is essentially another case like that of Terri Schindler, except that no one in his family wants him dead and the government has ordered his death. It is notable that France has socialized medicine, so the decision comes to a desire to cut costs.
If you care about the rights of handicapped people, or are concerned about giving government control over your healthcare, then you might care about this story.
I don't care if the individual is in Europe, America, or Antarctica...this flat-out wrong.
Then why not post it from where you found it instead of sticking it on your blog?

The way I read it is that Lambert is brain damaged, not brain dead? No info on any kind of advance directive, either, if this is some instruction that Lambert left. Sure doesn't sound like it.

And prayers for us!…forgive us Lord for our indifference to your most vulnerable. Have mercy on us even as we have shown so little to others.
I have no idea if your story is even true or not, but even if it is, we are literally losing America to the left and that is my only concern. For you to bump this story ahead of the countless problems we have right here isn't being the next Rush, it's being an egotist.
That is the case. Brain dead is truly dead (as was the case with Jahi McMath); Vincent is in a vegetative state, meaning that he has severe brain damage but is alive (until he dies of dehydration).
His “doctor” described the decision to starve/dehydrate him to death as the “cessation of treatment.” What a dishonest word twist. His parents are looking into suing the “doctor” for murder; that will probably go nowhere.
If you ever need medical care in France, you should probably avoid that “doctor.”
Oh, the story is true.
France is doing this.
Bottom line: France will pay to import and care for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants while murdering helpless citizens.
In terms of ground level politics, how many times have those on the “Right” and in the GOP and beyond that the President of the United States Donald Trump asserted themselves to be “Pro-Life”.
The dignity and sanctity of human life has been on the radar screen of politics with the “Left” deemed “Anti-Life” for decades since the days of Ronald Reagan.
This story is very much a “Right” versus “Left” story for those who put politics at the top of their “bucket list” every day.
Last week I returned to a dentist I had 3 years ago. 3 years ago I needed a tooth filled and could not get in touch with this guy so I found someone else. I did not know my dentist was in a coma. I learned last week from him that he’d had a heart attack, followed by a stroke, and then some diabetes episode that put him into a coma. 53 years old. 3-1/2 weeks into his coma he had no brain activity and was declared brain dead and the doctors started making arrangement for organ donor recipients. 3 days after being declared brain dead they wheeled him into an operating room with the intention of harvesting his organs.
He sat up and got off the operating table only a few minutes before they were going to carve him up.
7 days ago, I got my teeth cleaned and a small cavity filled.
So, what the Hell is brain death? Is it just some legal mechanism to allow doctor off the hook on murder if they carve you up for parts?
No one can answer why you should care. You have to do the work yourself. Just don’t be that guy someday who gets starved till death.

We’ve had terminal family members who left advance directives pulling all care other than palliative at the end.
We were by all til the end.
Anyone who says that’s a gentle way to go ought to be made to try it.
