The corridors leading up to the Alabama Senate are lined with black-and-white photographs of past legislative sessions - each framed poster like a yearbook page from a distinctly male-only school.
But inside the dim public gallery, looking down onto the Senate floor, many of the seats are filled by women. They are young and old, some in suits and some in bright shirts with pro-choice slogans emblazoned across the front.
They watch the drama play out in the chamber below, as a handful of Democrats and an even smaller number of women make clear their outrage over the abortion ban that will pass in just a few hours, and in a day, will become law.
The activists next to me in the gallery laugh and gasp with each argument and reply. Some shout an 'Amen!' in agreement as the debate continues.

Half of all people who are aborted are males, so of course men should have a say.
Half the victims of abortion are male. Of course men have a say!
More than half. In almost every culture, the birth rate of males to females is 1.04:1.
It’s often the abusive father, husband or boyfriend coercing the abortion so the non-evil males should definitely have a say.
“Half of all people who are aborted are males, so of course men should have a say.”
Yeah. But that still buys in to their premise.
If the man has no choice but to pay if the woman chooses life, then the man should have a voice.
YES especially if it’s a (black) male who was conceived in rape, as this young man reminds us before a crowd in Alabama a few days ago.
These 4 minutes are well worth everyone’s while.
“I am not the residue of the rapist, I am the resilience of my birthmom.”
Should lesbians?
Absurd arguments.
California gun ban: Should non-gun owners have a say in the debate?
Kinda hard to get pregnant without a man....
Author states in her Twitter feed that Georgia and Alabama’s bans are “Unconstitutional”.
The Towering Intellect herself. Fresh out of University?
Should men have a say in the debate?
Of all the arguments in the debate, this is by far the stupidest.
OF COURSE men should have a say.
They should have more than that. You are talking about the murder of their sons and daughters, their nieces and nephews, and their grandchildren.
The government of 5he United States was created to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves AND OUR POSTERITY.
It is our posterity that is the subject of the debate. Men have not only 5he right but the duty to participate.
Do people who know nothing about business have a say in business regulation?
False narrative. Sometimes its the woman who lives a lifestyle that leads to her finding herself pregnant with a child she does not want. She chooses an abortion. It works both ways. Men can be concerned about this subject as well as women.
Genetically, that foetus is as much a part of the father’s body as it is the mother’s.
>>>If the man has no choice but to pay if the woman chooses life, then the man should have a voice.<<<
As the law stands the man can’t save his baby’s life or in the reverse instance must pay child support even if he is not interested in being a father. As long as women decide if they will become a mother or not it’s only fair that men decide if they shall pay or not. I would exclude married men from that opt out as you can say children within marriage is to be expected. And before anyone cries about deadbeat dads, I’m merely calling for fair play. If a woman decides not to be a mother the law lets her. Let the men have the same “freedom.” Fair is fair.
