Campus protests started in the 1960s, but protests on todays college campuses have a different vibe. While protests in the past pitted students against university leadership, protests in the present are supported and accommodated by presidents and administrators.
At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, for example, college officials waste resources on political activism and social justice projects housed within the Campus Y, Chapel Hills hub for social justice.
Although a substantial portion of its revenues come from gifts and the University Foundation, the Campus Y benefits from its status as an official part of the university as well as generous university funding. Its primary purpose is to push progressive politics to all students on campus, from freshman orientation through graduation. If UNC-Chapel Hill bankrolled a right-wing campus organization that encouraged students to hold pro-life protests, take gap years to work for conservative politicians, and otherwise shaped students to teach them about conservative philosophy and activism, the outrage would be constant. Yet, when all the above is done for social justice and left-wing causes, nothing seems amiss.
Founded in 1860, the Campus Y is the longest standing Y in the nation and has housed intramural sports, the yearbook, student stores, and served as the headquarters of the Daily Tar Heel. The Campus Y building itself is no longer a space for students to meet and engage in sports and other activitiesnow, its a social justice echo-chamber.

I think too many New Yorkers moved to NC in the 80s and 90s.
I remember a friend wanting to move himself and wife down there because everything, including homes, were so much cheaper at that time. Just as well he didn’t make the move — he would only have added to the Democrat invasion.
A lot of upstate New Yorkers unable to find work are Republicans leaving the state.
It took some digging, but I learned that “Campus Y” refers to the campus branch of the Young Men’s Christian Association. However, it proclaims itself to be “UNC’s hub for social justice and innovation”—which doesn’t seem very Christian.
See how its done? A group of leftists take control of a state funded entity. In this case they establish an independent self governing unit which at its core is funded by taxpayers. Then they get additional funds from the self loathing, crypto socialist, “progressive” billionaires. They hire more leftist staff lawyers and public relations people. Soon they have a platform to employ, promote and influence. Top university officials are ideologically willing to accommodate or too intimidated to object especially if they put a minority or a homosexual out in front of the show.
A-freakin-men!
Dear South, you are going to have to take the lead in the fight against our cultural rot. The North is lost.
Who is your candidate for 2020?
If you knew UNC you’d know it’s one of the most lib skools in da state:-)
I left the Triangle in 1966 and never looked back. ‘Too many pushy know-it-all Yankees moved down to NC and brought their trash with them. I had to move to the rural midwest to get away from them.
Not surprising really given the ‘triangle’ down in NC is a bastion for libtards and progressivism......
