I used a similar (and I think better) analogy when explaining this to my jr high students. The government says I can use only the right half of the road. I give up freedom of driving on the whole road—but by only using the right half of the road, the road is much more usable for everybody. Kids saw the point immediately. We have to give up some freedom (ah, but how much?) to live in a functioning society.
Yes. The another name for this is “Ordered liberty”.
Liberty has to be bounded, and it is setting the bounds that is difficult and dangerous.
