Sure hope it turns out that it's played by the book, however the chips may fall. (Gawd, did I just use two cliches in one sentence? - sorry!)
I'm seeing it kinda like prosecuting a family member: heartbreaking, maybe, but necessary. This isn't speeding or running a stop sign. It's serious criminality that affected the entire country, undermined public trust in important govt institutions, and more than likely had a big influence on the outcome of a national election.
Many years ago, an FBI agent turned in his own son who was an accomplice to a murder. There was another FBI agent who turned his son is who committed some other serious federal crime.
