Canadas oil sands industry just cant catch a break.
Enbridges Line 3 pipeline is facing the prospect of more delays as it was hit with a legal setback in a Minnesota court. On Monday, a court ruled that the Minnesota Public Utilities Commissions decision to approve the Line 3 replacement, based on an environmental impact statement, was not supported with substantial evidence that it would not harm the environment. Specifically, the court cited the inadequate assessment of how an oil spill would affect Lake Superior and its watershed. The case was brought by a coalition of environmental groups and native communities.

All the progressives screaming and chanting things like: “Shame on Canada! Leave that Dirty Oil in the ground!!!”
Well, they’ve pretty much gotten their wish. Between this, the fights against Keystone XL, Energy East, the pipelines to the BC coast, and Lac Mégantique, they have pretty much indeed FORCED Alberta into a situation, where that ‘dirty oil’ is indeed being left in the ground. :(
Likewise, whenever Alberta makes noise about perhaps trying to separate from Canada over this, the progressives just scoff at them: “Good luck with that, Alberta, seeing as you’re landlocked, and all...”
