The only one available here is Verizon. Before they put up a tower 3 or 4 years ago, this was a dead zone.

Agreed. Other people I know I have so many problems with these smaller carriers. I have had Verizon for 20 years and have never experienced any issues.
My daughter wored for Verizon, so we got our phones free. Now she works elsewhere, but we still have reasonable Verizon service. Absolutely not a single problem...except I needed a new battery after about 8 years. Got at local store for $50.
If my phone dies permanently, I can get reconditioned Galaxy 5 at AMZ for less than $100.
So what’s the problem?
