I’ve always considered his music to be air pollution and Chuck’s to be priceless.
Well, so far on FR I’ve learned that Springsteen, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones never had any talent as musicians or songwriters.
Chuck Berry wrote and recorded a bunch of great songs. He is up there at the top with Little Richard and Buddy Holly in my opinion in his influence on rock and roll. He was cheap and lazy as far as live performances, used local pick up musicians when he did a show to avoid paying professionals and didn’t really care about his fans.
Springsteen puts much more effort into his
work and into actually being a musician and performer. Appearing with Hillary in 2016 killed any pretense of being an advocate for the working man, but that is pretty much just an act for any multi-millionaire performer (they’re all limousine liberals). ‘Born to Run’ got a lot of attention, but check out ‘Darkness On The Edge of Town’ and ‘Nebraska’ for some fine work.
Born To Run was that incredible. Right about 1974 or 1975. It was the best on the radio song that I had ever heard. Went to the Fox Theater in Atlanta and saw the band live. Great Concert. Now a days I look at what Bruce has become and just say what went wrong. Yet that concert was still in my memory as one of the very best.
Haha, calling on the “Springsteen Sucks” ping list!
for you, too, Springsteen Sucks ping!
I've heard from several people that Bruce did a lot of charitable things in the Asbury Park area even after he moved to LA, but did it without fanfare. I give him a lot of credit for that. I also know he comes back to the area from time to time and does one-off gigs at The Stone Pony and other venues as a way of giving-back...again, mega-props for the guy. He STILL plays for 3 1/2 hours live. Finally, he is in the Rock Hall and a zillionaire, while people would run away screaming if DoodleBob drove his used car to the local bar and took over at karaoke nite.
That said, I heard more of his songs than I'd care to admit on the radio - Rosalita was pretty interesting though my favorite Springsteen song is Santa Clause is Coming to Town - yet in the end I just couldn't get on the Boss Bandwagon. Of course, lots of Bruce fans didn't like my fav Frank Zappa - maybe it's a function of how we're wired. Your mileage may vary.
What an extremely awesome commentary! I had seen both Chuck and Bruce live, front row seats, and actually also met Bruce when he was starting out. This video is a great tribute to an outstanding American original, as a musician and lyricist Chuck Berry.
I'm being totally serious. People only say Springsteen's music sucks because of his political beliefs.
Compare to Ted Nugent who is a rock hero around here because he's a staunch conservative, a supporter of President Trump and also he likes to hunt. Likes to hunt a lot! But let's face it, his music is rather pedestrian and gives most people a head-ache.
If only Ted Nugent would write Bruce Springsteen like songs - he would be the perfect all around guy.
He died as a musician after The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle, and that was a long time ago. When he dumped his wife to go off with his violinist, I tuned him out once and for all. But a few years ago he was asked to sing a Bob Dylan song at the Kennedy Center honoring Bob Dylan, so I was watching on Bob's behalf.
The Jersey shore bar band boy, Springsteen, came out on that prestigious stage and committed an absolute atrocity on that song. It was beyond embarrassing. Given Dylan's eccentric vocalizations, it's easy to think Dylan didn't know how to sing. But when I heard the contrast between his intention and Springsteen's pitiful simulation, Dylan's subtlety and originality became apparent, and Bruce's pitiful attempt to pay homage revealed his profound lack thereof.
Here's an old one from my time living in the Philly/NJ area:
Q. Why does Philly have all the lawyers and Jersey have all the toxic waste dumps?BTW, Frankie Valli's music has really survived the test of time. He was quite productive and original also. The somewhat recent movie about his life was extremely well done, evocative of the era and very entertaining.A. Because Jersey got to choose first.
In suburbia, in the early 1980s, most of us kids were either The Who, Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Rush, Black Sabbath, or what we'd call classic hard rock bands. There were not many Springsteen fans where I grew up, and those who were fans were, ironically, from the upper middle class cluster. Those of us 'misfit toys' were more inclined to go see Van Halen at the Spectrum or Metallica or Anthrax (before they got big) at the Tower.
As for Uncle Ted, he's a much better listen than the Boss. Stranglehold somehow makes my car set land-speed records, as does Great White Buffalo. But candidly, his treatment of women leaves a lot to be desired (especially his 'adoption' story) and his over-the-top commentary makes this Deplorable cringe at times.
I'd go to a Ted Nugent concert before a Springsteen odyssey, but in both cases I'd just the same go to a club and see an unsigned band and wish Ted just shut up and played his guitar.
Nice spread. He managed to get it classifide as a horse farm to catch a huge break on prop taxes, probably has an “undocumented alien” on the pyroll to clean the crap of the the one horse stable.
Springsteen should be the poster child for “cultural appropriation”. If it weren’t for Robert Johnson, Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and other bluesmen from the past he’s be just another White trash from the Jersey Shore, crashing Chevelles on the Garden St Parkway.
You made the ping list...that’s awesome!
I never said Springsteen sux. I just said he was waaayyyy overrated. I don’t give a second thought about these idiot’s politics; if I like some of their songs, I’ll continue to like those songs. I will admit that I do take note of the politics and remember it for the most part when (or more appropriately “if”) it ever comes down to a decision about whether to actually spend money on their product. I avoid it.
It won’t be very active, but I’ll post whenever I see anything Springsteen, lol.
Like any dad, he likes watching her achieve. Wow, you can eat fancy stuff while horses run around right in front of you, like a show or something:
"The Boss" loves his daughter and THIS is what he bought her:
Dang, uh...quite a spread, huh..? She's really a really good horse rider and she wins trophies, as you see below. Longines -on her hat- that's a Swiss watchmaker. You know, uh...fondue and yodeling Switzerland, right?
It's still hard work, though, so when the whole family gets tired, THIS is what they go home to. Uh...or at least ONE of their homes, anyway:
I don't have anything against his pretty daugher and I think wealth is ok. I ENJOY his music.
I just don't go around preaching the righteous glories of poverty, though.
