I grew up in Orchard Park, NY home of the Buffalo Bills.
I remember when you would not even consider eating a fish out of Lake Erie. I remember when Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna, NY would take a barge of slag from the steel plant on the shore of Lake Erie and dump it every night out in the middle of the Lake. Now it is one of the best Walleye fisheries in the world.
I also remember Love Canal in Niagara Falls, NY where they buried drums of chemicals in the 1960s and then built a school and subdivision over the site. Then ten years later all the people in the houses starting coming down with cancer. It is now a federal superfund site.
I also remember hearing about how the sulfuric acid rain from the coal electric plants in OH & PA were causing all the lakes in the Adirondacks to have PH levels that killed all the fish.
Companies/people did a lot of things over the years that made money but in the long run hurt us and themselves. The point is we should learn from our mistakes. I am a lumber broker. I make money off of the harvest of timber.
