Lawmakers who voted last week to block President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency along the U.S.-Mexico border will have a tough legal hurdle to overcome after a Friday statement by Attorney General William Barr.

Following Congress’ rejection of the president’s declaration, POTUS issued his first veto on Friday, claiming authority under the law to make the designation.

“Today I am vetoing this resolution. Congress has the freedom to pass this resolution, and I have the duty to veto it,” the president said.

Barr, who has a stellar reputation among members of both parties, issued a strong statement in support of the president’s veto, as well as the White House’s conclusion that a true emergency exists at the southwest border:

Editing is dead.

Voice to text, direct from the machine, no editing and no consideration for examples such as that which you've illustrated.
Just "get it to print" these days.

The Dirty Dozen GOP Senators look more stupid by each passing day.
While hundreds of illegals invade our border each day.
A pox on every single one.

I think the expectations for our AG have been distorted greatly in the last 10 years. Holder was by any measure a very partisan AG. Lynch did not rein in the politics of DOJ and did not have a firm hand (figurehead). Sessions had some great ideas, but by recusing himself he allowed DOJ to continue the trajectory of politicization as demonstrated by the election “investigations” and Rosenstein continued to run the most high profile and important investigation that was based on oppo research allowing DOJ to remain weaponized. He relegated himself as impotent with his recusal - a recusal he did not need to do so he never fully assumed control.

If we have an AG that does nothing more than play it straight, politics be damned, we should be just fine. That is what DOJ needs right now. Sadly, anything that simply follows the law that benefits the President will be labeled by the left as purely partisan because that is the new standard. The position has been distorted by the same hyper-partisan politics that has distorted everything else in our nation.

I think Barr came back because of the same motivations that propelled Trump to run for President - he was concerned about what he saw happening with an institution he loved. Lord knows he did not need the headache. Until he proves different, I am hopeful he will do nothing more than rigidly enforce the law and remove politics from our justice system. Our constitution demands nothing less.

Let’s tell the truth - they are the pro-illegal immigration Chamber of Commerce wing of the republicrats with the exception of Rand Paul who has at least been consistent and has a valid argument, albeit one that is not followed by our government in dozens of other areas. If you look at their past reactions to emergency declarations their behavior is totally inconsistent and supports my description.

In all due respect to Mr. Barr, why does the President need his endorsement of the veto?
Will it make a difference?
YES I do believe it will make a difference. It will cut down on the arrogant law suits filed against the president and focus the argument squarely on the LAW, not on leftist interpretation of the law. The highest LEGAL official has spoken. I welcome Barr’s support.

Yep - I remember that and wondering why as I listened to his confirmation grillings...I liked the way he looked and spoke and how he was obviously disdainful of the idiots that went ape with their comments/questions.
