NO ONE should be given admission to a school if it's robbing a more deserving STUDENT. The situation's been way out of hand forever. Athletics, with students who don't have to be truly qualified, are a huge part of the problem. Let colleges recruit from students who reach the highest academic standard that can be achieved and still meet their student numbers.

This scandal has a silver lining. As always happens, the entitled class over-reached. It's as wrong for an unqualified student to be admitted to play a sport or for ethnic balance as it is for any other reason.

(don't wind me up)

Totally agree and great post overall.

While mostly unrelated to this scandal, I hate the way that athletics have essentially taken over colleges and universities. It's a farce to see barely literal people not only admitted to the best schools but heavily recruited and pampered as well. Just so they can throw a ball around for the school team. Meanwhile, those students who take academics seriously are pushed off to the side.

I have nothing against sports but it seems that our college system is more occupied with being a "farm team" for the professional leagues than turning out educated people who by realizing their full potential, can change the world and make it a better place.

Of course, it's a pipe dream to expect anything to change. These college sports bring MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars into the schools. It's at the point now where a college football coach earns more money than the entire faculty at the science or engineering departments.
