Nothing passed down to me. Of course my 3 boys will get my collection.
I tend to buy classics. An 1882 circa model 73. A 1903 Krag fully stocked carbine (Philippine constabulary ). An 1884 trapdoor Springfield. A Marlin 336 in .35 Remington. others.
All lost in that canoe accident.
Dad was a marine. Guadalcanal/Bougainville. I have his Marine Raiders knife. He was not a raider. I ruined its value by sharpening it many decades ago.
The ammo is getting harder to find...I don’t bother looking
for it in stores anymore.
I believe I have a couple of boxes laying around here somewhere. I do know that dies are made for it so reloading is an option if youre into that.

Marlin 336-RC 3030 Nearly brand new had been fired less than 50 times.
Beautiful gun.
I had my late Grandfathers Remington Model 742 carbine in .308 that was wonderful for the woods, until my now-exwife bought some jewelry, assuring me that she had the money for it, until the bill showed up.
I have the Winchester 70 that my Grampa bought when he got back to the states after WWII.
It’s still a tack-driver.
Who shoots a deer in the meat?
Head, neck, or through the lungs wastes nothing.
Don’t shoot heads or spinal area due to CWD. Most hunters I know go for a heart shot. I have shot large mule deer in the rectum, due to their not following verbal commands to turn side ways, with 7mm Rem Mag and had it exit the chest. Mess to field clean but it does save a lot of meat.

My grandfathers white tail rifle was a Winchester model 100 in .308
My sons still use it
Rectum?
Rectum hell, it killed him!
Yes it did!
Good for them! Traditions in hunting are a big deal. When my father was single and stationed in Germany in 1953, he had a custom .270 built on a Mauser 98 action and hunted with it until he retired it in the late 70s. It’s one of the most beautiful rifles I’ve ever seen and I have it now, although I hunt primarily with a bow.
We only have whitetails in this part of the country, and so many of them that if I can’t get a shot I want to take I just wait for the next one to come along.
Many years ago I took a head-on shot on a whopper doe with my ‘06. The bullet went through the esophagus just above the breastplate and left the most god-awful mess I’ve ever seen. There were chewed-up acorns and coffeebean pods between the hide and the meat past the back of her rib cage. Since then I’ve been very selective with my shots.
My wife uses a .243 and takes a heart shot pretty much every time. 9/10 times they are DRT with little damage to any of the parts you’d want to eat.
One of my offspring has a 243 and uses 100gr Nosler partition bullets. Very effective and I seen her drop mulies at 350 yards with one shot. The gun kicks more than I like but she doesn’t mind it.
Yep, that’s what I thought it looked like and definitely not a K-BAR. Thanks.
