I would call what we are in right now a Cold Civil Wat. Unlike the War for Southern Independence, this actually is a civil war. Its a fight about what narrative prevails - western civilization or nihilistic socialist utopianism - rather than a group of states seeking independence.
Ironically, I think it is the very thing that touched off the previous conflict - ie secession - which is the only means of preventing this one from becoming a hot war. The blue and red states need to separate. Some states need to break apart. The two tribes have completely different world views and nothing but contempt for each other.
