That’s a bit overdoing it but does it send a message? Shooting a few would send a bigger message but counterproductive. We’d be like that Va. Gov.
A couple is all it would take. If it did happen, at least they’d be able to see a visible line in the sand.
Uh, they are facing heavily armed smugglers from the various mafias who control Northern Mexico (one of them refers to itself as the “goberment” so you shouldn’t think I’m leaving anyone out).
The only thing those SOBs understand IS force. The current situation on the border is the result of decades of hands off treatment leading them to lose any fear of U.S. law enforcement. Once they see real military equipment pointed at them they might think that through.
The downside is that the Americans on the border will be caught up in this if the BP starts going after some guy in a pick up because he fits the profile. That will generate citizen resistance. BP needs to focus on the real threat coming from across the border. Considering that the Mexican President just said he’s not gonna bother trying to go after the leaders of the mafias anymore, that threat is about to go ballistic.
Even blasting a cactus or two apart would give the illegals an idea of what a big round like that would do to them. But what would Nancy say?!
Infanticide and maintaining our national sovereignty are two separate things
No, it isn't. It should've happened when Paul Ryan wasn't playing nice with Deplorable priorities. It's an emergency and an organized invasion of the US. The President has those powers so that a feckless Legislature or an over-zealous military can't improperly protect and defend the US.
That is underdoing it.
overdoing it

Shooting a lot of them at once would send an unmistakable message and would be the most productive action we could take. Catching a group of armed smugglers and killing all of them is the gold standard of border control.
It will come to that eventually. The Cartels control northern Mexico and they are very heavily armed with substantial numbers of fighters. They have made considerable inroads toward control in Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Texas. Local authorities can take the bribes or risk assassination. They are not going to resist effectively.
It will require Military intervention to stop this.
How can it be overdone? When I was a tourist in Mexico I had to drive through a military checkpoint with armed soldiers and mounted heavy machine guns. They see this stuff all of the time.
