Immigrants — coming to America legally and in accordance with our immigration policy, which was usually highly restricted except for periods of economic growth — passed by the Statue of Liberty on the way to Ellis Island to be processed.
At Ellis Island, they were checked for diseases, checked for employment, checked for a place of residence, checked for a sponsor.
If they failed any of these checks, they would be turned away.
Trump’s wall does not replace the Statue of Liberty, which has nothing to do with our immigration laws. If there must be an analogy, it would be that of preventing immigrants from slipping around Ellis Island to enter NY illegally.
And let’s clear up one other point that these stupid communists and socialists either can’t or won’t understand...that lousy sonnet inscribed on the Statue of Liberty was not a part of the original statue. That was written by the very ardent communist Emma Lazarus who won a fund-raising contest to raise money to build the base of statue.
The Statue of Liberty was designed to face Europe and to show them the way toward freedom in prosperity by following our constitutional republic, respect for and defense of liberty and private property.
Leave it to the communists to turn that once-great symbol into just another tool for communism.
