Nows your time to take to the skies.
Alaska Airlines will hire 3,000 people this year, the Seattle-based airline said in a blog post on Monday. Approximately three-quarters of the new jobs will be based in Washington state.
Shortly after hiring its 10,000th employee in Washington, Alaska plans to rapidly expand its frontline positions. For those looking to apply, the new openings will include positions as maintenance technicians, airport operations, customer service representatives, cargo specialists, flight attendants and pilots.
Future employees will be hired by both Alaska and Horizon airlines. The positions will be listed online and, for many, no previous airline experience is necessary.
An airline needs great planes, but also great people. Were thankful for the community here in our home state that is producing diverse talent and strong local partnerships, Andy Schneider, Alaska Airlines vice president of people, said in the blog post. Together, were building long-term, sustainable growth across Washington and, most importantly, giving the next generation a chance to succeed.
The airline now contributes more than $7 billion to the economy of Washington state. Over the past four years, the airline says its employment at the Seattle Tacoma airport grew 35 percent, or about six percent per year.
Much of the airlines rapid growth can be attributed to its merger with Virgin America last year.
Last year, the airline had a nationwide employment of about 21,300 people.
A great airline but who wants to live in Washington State?
No experience. Great I always wanted to be a pilot. Where do I apply?

Can you apply to be a pilot without any flying experience?

I wouldn’t live in Seattle, but I would live a half hour east of Seattle, because the state has nearly perfect weather.
Remind me not to fly Alaska or Horizon. Oh wait...I don't fly anything.
Surely you jest... I’m serious and don’t call me Shirley.
too soon?

Oh boy!
I wanna be a Pilot!
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Captain. If you look out the windows on the left, youll see a wing. If the wing wasnt there, wed be corkscrewing down into the ground.
Wonderful Company.

So, Alaska Airlines is going to hire pilots with no experience?
Ladies and gentlemen: in a few minutes our flight attendants will be rolling a small tank down the aisle. If you are in the aisle at that time, you will be squished as flat as that dead skunk thats been in the middle of the slow lane on I-5 by Tacoma for the last couple of weeks.
I'm going to guess that customer service, gate attendants, etc, can be trained on the job.
For other positions, like pilots, they can take people with prior experience flying the same plane type in an air cargo capacity. Plane mechanics, lots available from the Air Force.
