“Romney always has had a political tin ear. “
I don’t think it’s that so much as Romney has never NEEDED the good will of anyone. Therefore he has no idea how to act to secure good will. But the Senate is very much about building relationships and good will. I read that LBJ had a regular routine of calling all the Congressmen. He had somebody keep track of what they spoke about so he could reference it and make them feel like he really remembered them, their wife’s name and their kid’s problems. Say what you will about that lousy snake, he was very effective at getting what he wanted, even from the opposition. Romney is not doing Utah any favors by being..,well, Romney.
someone, bang the gong, get the hook, and remove this decrepit, useless waste of skin off the political stage...NOW!

And if that didn’t work, he’d have one of his Dixie Mafia cronies send a gunslinger to visit the family at home, press a pistol muzzle up against the youngest child’s head and remind the father to “smile when ‘ol Lindon talks to yeh”.

Good point. Romney has always been the executive not someone part of a team. I suspect he will be more like McCain, better at throwing bombs than building consensus within the party and, like McCain, will be more on the Democrat team.
McRomney is the continuing of the cancer in the GOP most notably championed by his name sake, McCain.
I don’t think Mitt wants to stay in the Senate long enough to really chum around. I liked Sundance’s theory that Mitch made him publish it as something of a loyalty oath before giving him a plum seat on the foreign affairs committee.
Sure, Mitt’s there to slow Trump down, but IMO also in order to get the backing to be his main primary challenger in 2020.
