Plenty of factions in Israeli politics and in the end the leading party usually ends up organizing a coalition and controlling the government over the objections of the smaller parties.

The system for electing the 120 seats in the Knesset (Parliament) is proportional with a four percent threshhold. 13 parties showing over four percent in one poll taken in the last week.

The election is April 9th but the jockeying is already well underway.

Hard to keep track of how many parties you mentioned. 5? 6? That’s a lot of partying.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks - or so I’ve heard - is the military exemption for strict or orthodox Jewish sects.
