If you wish someone a Merry Christmas, should the recipient be forced to reply in kind with another Merry Christmas or be penalized in some way?
This of course would apply to other greetings as well such as "Happy Chanukah" or "Happy Kwanza".
For example, recently in Virginia, a teacher was actually fired for not using the "correct pronoun" to address a student. The student wanted "he" but the teacher knew her before as a "she".
She believed one thing, and he believed another. In addressing the student, the student's desired mode of address is what is demanded by the state.
Hence, it seems perfectly reasonable that when someone indicates their preferred mode of holiday address is "Merry Christmas", they may only be granted holiday wishes in kind and, if not, the offender must be penalized.
For reference, here's a link to the story about the teacher. https://www.foxnews.com/us/virginia-teacher-reportedly-fired-for-refusing-to-use-pronoun-for-transgender-student
No.
But I need not ask permission to say it. And I do. In most cases it is pleasantly received.
Of course not. That is the antithesis of free speech. The whole problem with the left is that they want to control and define other people, to subjugate them. Enforced speech is not only as bad as but may be even worse than not permitting people to speak.
Christ isn’t about being fair.
Were he fair no one would escape hell because we all fully deserve it.
That said, if someone wished me a Happy Chanukah or a Merry Festivus or whatever, I wouldn't rebuke them - "I don't celebrate THOSE holidays..." - nor blast them in a fit of moral indignation about how we CAN say Merry Christmas again. I usually say "thank you...and a Merry Christmas to you..." and move along.
I get the point...we should have equilibrium amongst geese and gander. But these people would reply "my gender-less pronouns aren't the same as your patriarchy-infused faux salutation." These people need help, and are best left to living in their urban, largely liberal/statist enclaves and eating tofu. Centrists, however, can be red-pilled with kindness to get them on the MAGA train.
No. If one doesn’t want to say “Merry Christmas” in return, it’s perfectly polite to say, “Thank you.”
no. i say Merry Christmas and often get happy holidays back. i don’t care.
The whole thing is stupid.
People are so afraid to give any kind of greeting. Who would be offended by someone wishing you well?
I only say Merry Christmas to the black and Hispanic people that I work with. I’m afraid of saying it to whites (other than ones I know very well), because they might get ‘triggered’ by it and cause me trouble at my job.
Sad country when you have to worry about that.
Plenty of people are trying to pressure people into *not* saying "Merry Christmas".
I say Merry Christmas to everyone.
If they dont like it tough, they say happy holidays back
I occasionally get a happy Hanukkah back, we usually both grin.
Stupid question.
Liberals.
No but speaking up about it and making note of who does and does not say Merry Christmas is still “allowed” isn’t it?
Kwanzaa is a fake pile of crap made up by a savage who pressed a hot iron on the face of a woman he was trying to rape.
It is only celebrated by liberal government school teachers and some who like to play dress up.
Silliness.
I say Merry Christmas to everyone, while wearing my MAGA hat. Not kidding. One of my daughters thinks I wear it to get in peoples faces. Well, a little, but I told her that I also wear it so that when I perform small acts of kindness, especially to those who are of the traditionally liberal persuasion, it shows were not evil maniacs.
The other day as I was leaving a gas station with my MAGA hat on, I noticed a ladys car hood was unlatched. She happened to be black. I stopped, got out, let her know her hood was up. Said I wanted her to be safe and shut her hood.
She was very grateful. I wished her a merry Christmas and drove off.
Penalized in some way?
Definitely a vanity pot.
Merry Christmas!
“She was very grateful. I wished her a merry Christmas and drove off.”
If she were white, it could have been a hate crime. LOL.
Then throw me in jail. Im beyond caring is someone is offended when I do good.
“I also wear it so that when I perform small acts of kindness, especially to those who are of the traditionally liberal persuasion”
About a year ago someone here posted an article by a big lib female. She and her daughter were traveling in the south and had major car trouble. Two MAGA southern boys spent a very long time fixing the car, and sent the ladies on their way, refusing to accept anything in return for their help. The woman was gobsmacked, and I think the bottom line was that she might have to re-think her bigotry about conservatives.
