Pat Buchanan made an interesting comment. It was GW Bush who started the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and pursued them far beyond any legitimate security interest that would benefit the American people. The legacy was 6,000 dead, sixty thousand physically wounded, and tens of thousands more psychologically maimed and of course Obama. The Bush family of course became enormously wealthy in its “oil” dealings with the 9/11 Saudis. Buchanan has no love for Iran or its mullahs, but Iran did not start these endless, dopey wars. Why won’t Trump disengage from these places once and for all?
Buchanan:
“the cause of the 7,000 U.S. military dead in the Middle East in this century, and the 60,000 wounded, are the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that were launched by the United States and George Bush, not by Iran.....”
Only partly true.
The IEDs that killed and mangled many American troops were manufactured in Iran.
Trump inherited the stupidities of previous presidents. He has to play the cards he has been dealt, and the main one is a hostile, nuclear capable Iran.
Dealing with Saudi Arabia is reminiscent of the United States having a blood-drenched murderer, {numbered in the millions), Joseph Stalin, as an ally in WWII. The Saudis haven’t approached that.
Buchannan, like the “author” of this blog, is a
cotton-headed ninny-muggins.
Actually, I admire Buchanan. Have met him twice. He was just a bit too general in that opinion.
