There is only so much we faithful, native Californians can take. How much beautiful weather is worth this leftist insanity, and/or before this leftism turns into liberty crushing authoritarianism? Just sayin...
The midterm elections have turned out as most observers expected, nationally, statewide, and in Sacramento. By historical standards, nationally, the Democrats underperformed and lost a number of high-profile races. There was no Blue Wave—more like a blue ripple.
However, California is another story, remaining as blue as can be, and headed right into insolvency. In the contest for governor, California voters chose Democratic politician Gavin Newsom over Republican businessman John Cox, who is not a politician.
I honestly am not sure people even vote in California.
Like what was once said of old Chicago in the Mayor Dailey days: “Everybody gets to cast a ballot, but the votes have already been counted.”
California taxes real estate sales. If you are leaving the state, the state requires the money not be paid to you until California extracts the state tax from the proceeds.
They tax you even worse if you stay there. Cut your losses and get out.

I would say no. For the simple reason Democrats in CA have no qualms about raising taxes.

California is the world’s largest banana republic. The liberals game everything so they get their way. Tuesday’s ballot initiative to repeal the latest bait and switch gas tax increase (only a small fraction of the money is spent on roads)was written by our corrupt left wing attorney general to read “this ballot proposition will eliminate $6 billion in road repairs”.
If a US citizen, not true. We've left the state, and we didn't need any withholding on the proceeds.
Now, we did live in the house long enough for its value to quadruple, so we'll be owing capital gains taxes to both Uncle Sam and California. A bit of a first world problem, but worth the cost to have escaped from California last month.
I believe CA had like a 30 percent turnout? Something like that.
And I noted the 30 percent of the vote went to John Cox.
Out of state? I can see that. But exemption #1 is “The property is the Seller’s principal residence”. That’s going to apply to nearly everyone who is selling and moving out of California.
How many people are in Jefferson? And who’s going to pay for your infrastructure projects and firefighting?
I left a long time ago and fled to (red at the time) Colorado. Now the Dems have infected Colorado.

Working on a new plan to leave Colorado. Florida, Texas and Wyoming are on the list. Since I am older, I would prefer a place with no income tax to retire to. Also would like a state that has enough population to support a CISO position that I can work for the last 10 to 15 years of my career. That almost knocks out WY.
Family is in north Florida and further up the coast in GA (Savannah area). No relatives in Texas but I like the hill country area and love boating / fishing as a pastime.
So, where’d you move to...we’re thinking of exiting Oregon...getting just like CA...only worse weather.

I was a like long resident and left the state back in 2007 for a job in Indiana. My wife would love to go back when I retire in a few years but there’s no way that’s going to happen. Things were bad enough when we left and they’ve done nothing but go downhill since then.
