(software) activating/using Corel "Education version" software (NOT "Home and Student")

Has anyone purchased an "Education version" of Corel Draw Graphics Suite? (Not the "Home and Student" version, which is a separate product.) I'm trying to find out if activating and using it is as simple as having a valid .EDU email address, or if there are more steps involved.

I looked in various FAQs on the Corel site, but I couldn't find this question explicitly answered.

Kind of a longshot asking here, but I know FReepers are knowledgeable about a wide spectrum of things. Thanks.

TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: corel; coreldraw; graphics; software
What my post is NOT:
- It is not a request for a review (negative or positive) of Corel software or company.
- It is not seeking recommendations for competing graphics software.
- It is not asking for a rant about why XYZ Company's product is so much better and I should use that instead.
- It is not looking for opinions about companies selling software at different price points to different markets.

I am asking only about the process for activating and using Corel's products marketed as "Education version" from people who have actually purchased and installed it. Thanks.

Last time I bought software as a student adobe required me to send them a photo of a current student I’d.
I got cs4 for like $200.
I couldn’t live without Corel.
You should call them.

They probably send you an activation code to your .edu mail account.

There might be instructions on the school website. Or the instructor might help?

.
Unless they have changed, the edu version prints a notation when it is output to the printer/plotter.

This is slightly off-topic, but if you haven’t bought it yet you should look at the prices on eBay.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=corel+education+version&_sacat=0

Your purchase would include whatever was required to activate.

I have purchased a number of Windows 10 Pro keys on eBay for $2.99, and they all worked.

As part of the activation process, an email with the activation code is sent to the student’s college email.

I have gotten educational versions of Corel WordPerfect Office, as WordPerfect is still my preferred word processor for complexe documents requiring heavy formatting that don’t have to be shared.

I had no issues at all. They are not nearly as tough as Microsoft.

Why not go straight to the horse’s mouth by contacting them?

>> contacting them

I already did that. I sent a very precise, clearly worded question inquiring if an academic (.edu) email address was sufficient to verify and activate the software purchase. In reply, Corel sent me a purchase link to the product in their online store. 😠 I don't know what country their customer service people are in, but their English comprehension leaves much to be desired.

Bummer - never had to deal with Corel but it seems that if they offer an educational deal, then it ought to be easy enough to get it. When I was in the Military and then working Civil Service, Microsoft offered very cheap ways to buy Office and I just loaded the last one I bought before retiring...some 4 years after buying it...and had no problems with the on-line registration.

I have not purchased an education version of Corel software. My college student daughter did get a free version of the education Microsoft Office through the college.

Okay, I finally got my Education version (it's downloading now) with my college email address. But boy, did I have a convoluted route to get to this point:

  1. Opened a ticket with Corel, asking if my .EDU address was sufficient verification. Got a reply with a link to the product.
  2. Replied: "Hi, that doesn't answer my question. What I'm asking is this: is a .EDU (school) email address sufficient to verify and activate the Educational version?"
  3. Response from Corel: "That is correct. Since your email ends in .EDU you qualify for the Education Edition." Okay, great!
  4. Went to the order page, clicked on the Buy button -- and it took me to another page repeating eligibility requirements and telling me I need to contact Corel AGAIN to have them verify my status.
  5. Filled in the online form, which created another ticket, and wrote: "Per my ticket #XXXX, Jane Smith (Corel) confirmed that I qualify to purchase the Education Edition. Please let me know the next steps, thank you."
  6. Corel response to second ticket: "A customer service representative has now created an online shopping cart which includes the products you've requested. To verify and complete your order, click on this link (URL)"

Yes -- online shopping where I had to send messages in order to have my shopping cart created.

Clicked the link, logged in with my account -- and the product was in my cart, ready to purchase. When I completed the purchase, my invoice included a download link for the installer and the serial number I will use. There was an installation instruction saying that, for certain components, I will have to login to my account again during the installation process.

So that's it. Posting the steps here in case any of you want to go through this.

PS: I actually purchased the Technical Suite version of Corel Draw -- all the programs of the regular 2018 Draw suite plus some technical drafting programs.
