Armed for decades, the grounds monitors of a New York school district will no longer be allowed to have access to firearms.
The Saratoga Springs City School District Board voted last week 5-4 to disarm the group of school security employees, many of whom are former police officers, with the majority siding with advocates who argued firearms did not belong on campus.
“I want to stress,” said Superintendent Michael Patton, “that this vote does not imply that we don’t value or support a safe learning environment.”
The push to disarm the monitors was backed by Saratogians for Gun Safety, a local anti-gun group that has protested against area gun shows in years past.
“We are parents with children attending district schools and are just as concerned about our children’s safety as anyone else,” said Susan Steer, a co-founder of the group. “That said, having armed officers on school grounds does not make our children any safer as demonstrated by the fact that there was an armed school resource officer on campus during the mass shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.”
The monitors, in addition to school resource officers provided by local law enforcement, helped protect the campus and many of the 14 such positions funded by the school district are part-time.
At least one parent supported keeping the monitors armed, as reported by the Daily Gazette. “We have trained individuals, overly-qualified professionals who are willing to put their life on the line for our children,” said parent Michelle King. “How are they going to protect them if you don’t give them the tools to do it?”

But the gun grabbers want more school shootings, so they can then say "see, we need to ban guns!"
It's a corollary to Fast and Furious. Artificially create a crisis, then use the crisis to achieve your goal.
So because the guy at the Florida school didn’t take action against the shooter, he called for back up I believe and waitied?
Because things didn’t happen the way they should have there, this school board decided that it is useless to have armed personnel at school? Really??
Gee mass shooting in NY school just in time for the mid-terms. Gee hope the ones who took away the guns don’t get killed by a mass shooter, would be a shame.

That’s exactly what it implies.
It says they’ve been armed for literally decades and no issues at all in that time. But now for some reason they have to be disarmed. For safety!
The hell with the safety of the children. The opinions of flakey liberals take presidence over the safety of the children. Just for laughs, how many accidents have happened in the Saratoga Springs City School District since the grounds monitors have been armed?
Then i'm sure these parents will walk the school grounds every minute school is in session carrying around a bucket of rocks for defense in place of ex-police armed security. /S

Sure, they don’t belong on campus until two seconds after the shooting starts, and the ‘monitors’ are running down the hall holding their butts, just like the rest of the student body. These people are either possessed by spirits, or some mass, latent genetic defect got triggered in them.
