Trump Sides With Farmers In Battle Against Refiners

The Trump administration announced a major policy change in an effort to win back farm country, allowing the year-round sale of a higher concentration of ethanol.

Coinciding with a campaign stop in Iowa, President Trump announced the lifting of the ban of E15 during summer months, a significant win for the corn and ethanol industries. Up until now, E15 cannot be sold during the summer because of smog concerns. Ethanol producers saw their share prices skyrocket on the news.

The decision comes after roughly 18 months of damaging policies to the agricultural industry. Former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt became public enemy number one for the ethanol industry last year, even as many people in agriculture-heavy states supported Trump, as Pruitt’s agency repeatedly undermined the market for ethanol.

Time consider the hypothesis that Trump is starting to catch Potomac Fever.

THAT is the fundamental question and a very good one.

Farmers have been so jacked around that the few left can sure use the bucks from the Ethanol, but how many is that?

The corporates are another matter, but nevertheless, production of Ethanol decides the Iowa vote and that issue tends to be the first floor, for any and every candidate coming into Iowa.

Sell it all to China. The air in their major cities can take some more pollution. Better there than here. Trump must have a plan because the guy, unlike many of his predecessors, knows cars and I bet he wouldn’t any of his guys put that piss in his Maybach or Lambo.

I know it’s a political calculation, but the ethanol scam is so bad it really should be stopped.

I’m kind of surprised Trump hasn’t pulled back the curtain on this one too. Instead, he keeps doubling down on it.

Whether ethanol is good or bad aside; I’m highly PO’d with the oil companies. We’ve given them carte blanche to drill and frack everywhere, and become the world’s #1 exporter; but meanwhile our price at the gas pump keeps escalating. Horse hockey on them! They need some competition.

Ethanol threads are always entertaining examples of logical fallacies.

I'd rather farmers weren't in the fuel production business. If they must be, I'd rather the US taxpayer wasn't subsidizing them.

American oil companies don’t control the price of oil. All the multinational private companies put together control a small fraction of the total market.

Governments control much more oil and gas production than private industry.

“They need some competition.”

Thorium energy - that’s your bogey. Extremely abundant, extremely cheap, very clean, and very safe. AND, it doesn’t produce weapons grade plutonium (much to the chagrin to the NeoCon warmongers).

If you’re serious about being “PO’d” at big oil, then join us in getting the powers that be to listen. I’d give a website, but I don’t know if I am allowed here. You can easily look up some organizations online.

The environmentalists should be on board as well, but the fact is they don’t really care about the environment. Just power.

Really disappointed that Trump is caving to the agri-biz lobby. Not good for the average car-owning citizen.

[Surprised by this. Our car that is supposed to use the E85 cannot, it gets messed up. Cost us $$$$ to get it fixed.]

This is E15 (i.e. 15%, not 85% ethanol).

That expensive farm bill is mostly food stamps and market support, with some environmental crap and cheap, subsidized insurance that is worth about what you pay for it.
