The Trump administration announced a major policy change in an effort to win back farm country, allowing the year-round sale of a higher concentration of ethanol.
Coinciding with a campaign stop in Iowa, President Trump announced the lifting of the ban of E15 during summer months, a significant win for the corn and ethanol industries. Up until now, E15 cannot be sold during the summer because of smog concerns. Ethanol producers saw their share prices skyrocket on the news.
The decision comes after roughly 18 months of damaging policies to the agricultural industry. Former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt became public enemy number one for the ethanol industry last year, even as many people in agriculture-heavy states supported Trump, as Pruitt’s agency repeatedly undermined the market for ethanol.

This makes no sense at all. I don’t often disagree with this President but on this he is 100% wrong.

Instead of siding with farmers or refiners, how about siding with consumers? We want a CHOICE of whether to have that corrosive “fuel” in our vehicles.
Surprised by this. Our car that is supposed to use the E85 cannot, it gets messed up. Cost us $$$$ to get it fixed.
So...the tax cut we got will end up being spent on more fuel for the car since mileage will drop, another lawn mower since the engine life was just cut in half, higher food prices since corn prices will rise. And who knows what other dislocations in the economy will cost Mr. and Mrs. Average American.

The Republican Party has a lock on the oil producing states of Texas, Alaska and Louisiana.
Some of the farm states are not as Republican as the oil states.
This is great for the GOP.

Yeh, my concern is engines. I’m under the impression that today’s engines are designed for up to 10% ethanol. But, haven’t read whether they can handle 15%. Anyone know the facts about this?
I’d rather pay them not to produce Ethanol. It would probably be better in the long run.
What are you talking about? We just had an expensive farm bill. Where did that money go?
Even if that’s not enough, there are other ways to raise capital, including simply revving up the printing presses like they do for everything else.

Most E10 capable cars have not been adequately tested and certified for E15.
E85 vehicles should be a go.
Biggest problem with efficiency is that compression ratios that will get better performance from ethanol, cannot be used with appreciable amounts of gasoline in the mix.

How can they ban E15 but still sell E85?
Who would voluntarily buy E15 except someone with a flexfuel auto?
For the record, Trump was pro-Ethanol when he campaigned in Iowa. I am not going to have an issue with him on a campaign promise that doesn’t have intrinsic moral implications.
