Ruger LCP 380 Review
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 10/4/2018 | E Stewart

There are some really small, lightweight concealed pistols that you'd never know someone was packing. For the carrier they sometimes forget they have it on them.
One that stands out is the Ruger LCP .380.
In the world of self-defense firearms, being discreet is the same as carrying a self-defense blade. You don’t want the bad guy to know that you’re packing.
Before going down the path that bigger is better with a full size handgun such as a .45 with knockdown power.
Lets consider that you’re still wearing light-weight clothing, so its best to be having the smaller Ruger LCP on you.
If you have heavier clothing due to the colder area that you’re in.
Then, have the Ruger LCP as another back-up to your primary handgun.
Its always good to have more guns than not, never know when you’re going to need it.

Kool things about the Ruger LCP .380
By now the name should have hinted this mouse gun chambers the .380 ACP cartridge and it holds 6 rounds.
With an extended grip magazine, it holds 7 plus one in the chamber makes 8.
Get some quality hard-hitting hollow-points such as the Remington Golden Saber 102-grain self-defense loads, this mouse gun can hold its own. Read the rest of Ruger LCP 380.

Let's try not to confuse the gun-grabbers. :-/

My newest favorite pistol. I just bought one for under $200 out the door. It even came with a pocket holster. It has a manual slide hold-open, but for last shot hold-open you need to get the LCPII.

I love it for quick pocket carry for when I don’t want to take the time to put on my inside the waistband holster for my Glock 26. Which seems to be more and more often these days.

I know that .380 isn’t ideal, but with the right ammunition it is more than adequate for self-defense. I’m shooting HSTs in mine.

Bought one 4 months ago and love it. I’m a petite female so I needed a cc firearm that was easy to conceal on the body.

I use an in the pants holster usually but on some hot days I wear sundresses so I wear a thigh holster.

My wife likes her ruger LC380. The 17oz weight makes training with it more practical. https://ruger.com/products/lc380/specSheets/3223.html

I have a KelTec P3AT, which is what the Ruger LCP is based on (hell, let’s admit it: Ruger copied the KelTec). Basically, they are the same gun.

There is a difference between the LCP and the LCP-2.

I prefer the original LCP. They still make them both.

The LCP II has a much better trigger and is surprisingly accurate.

Have had one for several years and like it... It took some getting used to when shooting because it is so small, and I have to carry at least one extra loaded magazine, but I like how it disappears so well when concealed.

A couple years ago, my daughter decided she wanted to buy a gun and wanted something small. Someone recommended the LCP380. She and I went to a gun shop and told the clerk she was interested in a 380.

He pulled out several and without me mentioning that we were looking at the LCP, he pointed to the Ruger. He said “I have one, my son has one, my wife has one and my daughter has one.”

It’s a fun little gun to shoot but the pink polymer frame just isn’t my thing. She loves it.

LC9 is barely bigger. I feel better with 9mm. Nothing wrong with .380 if that is all you got or all you want.

The LCP has been my hot weather EDC for years. Easy to hide away wearing shorts and a T-shirt. It probably has the worst trigger in the world and it is pretty snappy when using defense loads, but it’s far better than a sharp stick when you may need it. It’s better than a 9mm or 1911 you leave at home because it’s too hot for an IWB holster.

I’ve carried one almost daily since Sept 2008. While I have many other carry guns, mostly 9mm and .40S&W, this continues to be my daily carry due to convenience. Only my Ruger LC9s comes close to ease of carry, but it’s still much larger than the LCP.

I have a number of pistols and revolvers, but like the Ruger LCR 357 revolver for my carry weapon. 5 round capacity. The trigger mechanism is one of it’s best features, with a nice steady pull throughout. I assume that feature carries through all the models. Ruger makes a nice carry gun.

My wife tried about 6 different 380s and did not like any of them until she tried the Sig Sauer P238. She immediately liked it.

While I am sure the Ruger is a fine gun, the best gun is the one that fits you the best. Even though the Sig Sauer is more expensive, over the long haul your real spending is ammunition, not the gun. That is if you practice and train as you should.

I’ve got the LCR and love it. It’s in my pocket all the time. Just the pocket. It’s not cumbersome or in the way at all. The 38 special round isn’t the biggest, but the real issue is getting it on target. I’m pretty good with it. I don’t have the bullseye all the time, but I have the 8 inch target all the time. That’s outside at about 20 yards or so. Inside a house that would be a rare, huge room. Most rooms are 24 feet max. IOW, it’s a can’t miss scenario.

I like the LCR because there’s no chambering necessary. Just aim and shoot. It’s only 5 rounds instead of the 6-8 mentioned above, but getting it in play so fast is worth it to me.
