Is there a Kavanaugh doppleganger?
The Oregonian ^ | September 19, 2018 | Kathleen Parker, The Washington Post

In one of Brett Kavanaugh's responses to allegations that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl when he was in high school, a charge he has denied "categorically and unequivocally," he suggested that, perhaps, this was a case of mistaken identity.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, a member of the Judiciary Committee reiterated this notion, saying that perhaps the accuser was "mixed up." And, on Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal's editorial board also floated the possibility of mistaken identity.

As crazy as that sounds, it wouldn't be unheard of. And, given the high regard in which Kavanaugh has been held throughout his life, including during high school, it would make the most sense. Could there be a Kavanaugh doppelganger?

His accuser, California psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford, alleges that, while partying in a house with other teens, she was pushed into a bedroom and found herself alone with a drunk Kavanaugh, then 17, and another boy, Mark Judge. While Judge allegedly watched and laughed, Ford says Kavanaugh pinned her down on the bed and tried to remove her clothes.

When Judge allegedly jumped on top of both of them, she was able to escape and hid in a bathroom until the two boys left. Despite the trauma she experienced, including a fear that her attacker might inadvertently kill her, she did not mention the episode to anyone until 2012 during couple's therapy with her husband.

Following several days of speculation and crossfire between the two opposing camps, Kavanaugh and Ford are slated to testify Monday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, although Ford has not confirmed that she will attend....

It did not happen. At least not THAT way. She probably invited a bunch of guys over to her house when her parents were gone AND to her bedroom. End of story.

I was still in the Army so it wasn’t me.

What if some other individual, as of now unknown, comes forward and claims he was the one groping, dancing, stumbling or whatever with Ford? Could Grassley already have such an individual? It would explain the confidence among some Republicans.

It could be that nothing happened, and she made it up.

But she didn't go to the same school as the boys, maybe she didn't know who attacked her, and only later attached the name of Kavanaugh to the assailant.

They are trying to give her an excuse to say it was someone so she isn’t lying.

Indeed. Another possibility, far from unimaginable in our times, is that she is genuinely appalled that a Justice Kavanaugh could threaten Roe v. Wade and other examples of what is for two days left SCOTUS holy writ, and it is worth making someone something up to prevent this from happening.

This, I think, in combination with the unexpected agreement of the Republican majority to hear her testimony so quickly but with no extraneous content, might explain the facts as we have them.

I think your suggestion is the more likely one.

But I do have to wonder about some of the gossip that Blasey was a somewhat of a wild teenager. From her perch in Palo Alto, she may very well feel that she was used by a lot of boys in her social circle—boys that eventually became successful and prominent members of DC society.

That kind of resentment can fester over a long period of time. We may be seeing the results of it.

Oh bull! I went to high school in the 80s, and I can recall several times somebody did something nasty to me. But I can't recall enough detail to identify a single one of those people at this point. And I didn't even drink then. This is not because they had "dopplegangers", its because memories that long ago fade.

Always a possibility - when stationed at Altus AFB, the (now ex) wife started giving me the cold shoulder treatment for a few days. When I finally asked what was going on, she told me one of her friends saw me hugging an oriental girls in front of the commissary....I didn’t even know an oriental girls...a few days later, she came and apologized to me because she had been to the commissary and saw a guy that looked just like me with an oriental girl — he was an SP, married to the gal and a dead ringer for me from 10 feet and farther.

My theory on the Rep confidence is that there is hard proof the future judge wasn’t there at all and even maybe out of town. Of course that would require that the accuser actually have a timeframe and/or an actual location for this imaginary event. ;-)

I think the doppelgänger theory is ridiculous, but there is a reason why it is being floated.

Perhaps it gives Blasey Ford a way out of her predicament. Or perhaps it’s a way of telegraphing that others know that she has the same allegation previously, but involving other people.

Makes sense but she should not be given an “easy way” out. She is a liar and needs to pay the price.

The easy way out is likely to be less damaging to Republicans, and to Kavanaugh himself.

What’s the exact date in 2012 that she remembered the incident and told her counselor? Was it before or after the March 26, 2012, New Yorker article came out suggesting Kavanaugh would be Romney’s pick for the supreme court?

Also could it be something really did happen to this woman at age 15 and she hates and fears the person who did it so much and she also hates and fears Kavanaugh on the court so much, that in her mind it had to have been Kavanaugh who attacked her, even if it wasn’t him, her inner voice would probably say “What does it matter that it wasn’t him? It fits the democrat agenda is the only thing that matters.”

Well, as anyone who has been around the block a few times knows, the end of a story like that one encompasses a number of different outcomes.
