Always go to a lawyer when you are asked by the police to come in for questioning and say NOTHING. The police will often act like it's no big deal, you know, we just want to ask you a "couple questions" to clear a few things up. More often or not, you end up in that interrogation room for hours and you will leave that room in handcuffs.
So when the police say they want to ask you a couple of questions, you are already a SUSPECT or a PERSON OF INTEREST in the investigation.
Haven't you ever watched Columbo? The TV show with the kindly looking disheveled man in the raincoat? He looks like a man you can trust, right? He looks rather harmless does he not?
But the man is a shark! He is going to disarm you with his casual, friendly demeanor and lay his traps. Just when you think the interview is over, and you put your hand on the doorknob to leave the room, Columbo will raise his finger and say "Just one more thing..."
It is then that you know you are screwed. For when Columbo has that "one more thing" kind of question, you are now one commercial break from going to jail!
Jail!
So clam up and lawyer up.
Any policeman worth his salt will tell you that. But some people, they just have to run their mouths...

Are you saying Columbo railroaded innocent people? I don't think so.
I think you have him confused with Hamilton Burger. I don't think that guy EVER prosecuted anybody that wasn't innocent.
