I don’t know. I mean retrievers have an instinct to retrieve, they will chase something thrown even though they aren’t trained. You might have to train them to retrieve properly, to bring it right back, mouth pressure and so on. I think terriers have an instinct to kill small animals. I think bred instinct makes all dog breeds different from each other.

I would love to know what % of trained pit bulls attack vs untrained pit bulls, and how that compares to other dogs. Supposedly only 5% of dog owners bother to train their animals, which makes for miserable dogs and miserable people. I would expect pits to be generally less trained by % than most dogs considering what % of scum makes use of them.

I skimmed the blog. I missed it if it talked about well trained and socialized pits attacking suddenly or attacking strangers.

The person in this story appears to have reluctantly made a responsible decision:

“Thoughts, pictures, and links from a man of little consequence.”

I am very sorry to have caused you such pain.

Perhaps we should change the subject. I understand that the thread was originally about the suitability of certain dog breeds for police work?

But of course, we could instead discuss the effects of UV radiation on the gestational length of the fruit fly. Your choice.

You couldn’t teach a pit bull to have a restrained bite an hold. The would totally mall anyone they got a hold of. Secondly you would never know when they were going to turn on their handler.

You’d have better luck living with a lion than a pit bull.

Bullshit. I live next door to one that is just so sweet to its little old lady owner. Yet I don’t walk outside without my 6 million volt stun gun! They are Hysterical! Uncontrollable! Nuts, and when left to their own devices, deadly......they are a liberal In the skin of a dog. Eventually they will go off on you.

No, I do not believe it that it does. Your point is an excellent one; and unfortunately, this (trained and/or socialized PBTs attacking strangers, friends, family) happens often enough that is is a point here.

Your inquiry deserves a reasoned and complete response. I will either create a new summary (the original one is on a computer to which I have no access at the moment) or put in order a set of links which you may peruse at your leisure - your choice, depending on your personal appetite for research. Would you be so kind as to state your preference?

I am keeping in mind your curiosity regarding trained and socialized pbts earlier in the thread. Thank you.

I love my pit more than my other dogs. Why? Because he is a trillion times smarter and loyal, doesn’t bark or jump at shadows, he’s mellow for a 7 month old puppy, smart, does tricks, lets me know when he has to pee/poop, plays gently with the jerk dogs and lets them ‘win’, is probably one of the smartest dogs I have ever owned. Had him since he was 6 weeks old. He is half border collie, so there is that.

I am not a ghetto thug though....so there is that.

“Get them before the ghetto filth get them and they are as normal as any other dog. “

True this.

I am a pitbull hater. They should be exterminated. I will unite on this cause.

Oh yeah. Lion cubs are cute, too. They still are crappy things to keep in the neighborhood.

Yes. But the Animal Farm Foundation (interesting choice of name), and the Best Friends organization, and other “pit bull pushers” have a great deal of money, and this is one way that they are using it to place pit bulls everywhere - whether, or if -they are appropriate or safe, which they are not.

This particular tact could conceivably take down small towns and their insurances and bankrupt them when these dogs attack and maim and kill . . . I actually considered putting this story in “conspiracy” for this reason . . .

The information is on the Dogsbite.org website:

I will pass on both, thank you. I have lived with many many animals and changing a Lion box is really rank. Most of the time they prefer to roll in the litter and urinate on the wall.

My first dog, that I paid for myself, was a Sheltie. They are a herding breed; and, one evening my Mother had some friends over. They had gotten up to leave and were joking and talking with one another when someone noticed that our little Sheltie had divided them up into 3 groups and was patroling between each of the groups. She "herded" them.

Never had taught her to do that, just instinct.

Hubby and I had a wonderful corgi. Corgis are "drovers" - they drive cattle, that is what they are bred for. Our Griffyn would sometimes nip at our heels while we were walking. Again, instinct.
