I don’t think you can have a productive conversation with this person. Change the subject to sports or something. Don’t allow yourself to be set up for liberal histrionics.

If they are truly your friend, they’ll respect your desire to keep politics out of your relationship. Your own dignity in the matter might even cause him to think more deeply.

I have an 80 year old neighbor that I help out. She’s as loony a liberal as there is. Watches MSNBC all day long. I told her right from the get go....do not try to talk politics with me. It will just make us hate each other. She has totally abided by my request and when I walk into her house she immediately turns the TV off.
She’s the only lib that I even have any contact with. Other than being a lost liberal she’s a great person.
