The Sloppy Redactors at the FBI and the Department of Justice
IWB ^ | LV

We are hearing a lot these days about how documents reluctantly provided to congress by the Department of Justice and the FBI have been heavily redacted, rendering them almost indecipherable. The operative word here is “almost.” There have been enough unredacted words or phrases in the documents submitted to congressional authorities to suspect one of the biggest cover-ups in American history.

The FBI is inadvertently leaving small breadcrumbs exposed for congressmen to seek further information and question why this or that redaction was made, if it appears there is no reason why the redaction should be classified given the context a particular document. No intelligence source or method appears to be in jeopardy. The only thing in jeopardy appears to be the reputation of DOJ and FBI officials.

Sloppy? Maybe a bit intentional to give a hint of what is being covered up.

It might not be inadvertent there might actually be some good agents attempting to get the truth out there.

Trump’s their boss. All he needs to do is say “release them” and they would have to comply.

Here's a typical document delivered to congress.

My thoughts exactly.

From the article:

Apparently, the FBI editor, who was responsible for redacting this particular text message by Strzok, failed to understand why such a tidbit of information would attract congressional attention.

Perhaps the FBI editor knew exactly why such a tidbit of information would attract congressional attention, and that was his/her intent.

Don’t expect Jeff I-Taut-I-Taw-a-Puddy-Tat Sessions to do anything.

They get held in contempt. Like Eric Holder. That sure showed him!

I’ve had experience with receiving redacted documents from the Washington State Patrol. There are always clues redactors miss. As an example, if a name is redacted, you can pretty much determine exactly how many letters are in the name and then compare it the possible names that can fit in that space.

Could be..., BUT, if you were running a law enforcement organization, WHO would YOU task with screening documents for release? Would it be your "Best and Brightest"? As to their "Work Product", they merely apply "If in doubt..., block it out!"

I suspect it’s a combination of negligence and being forced to make these redactions under short time constraints. Of course they’ve had more than a year to do the redactions but they obviously did not start until recently.

Trump has the nuclear option. He can declassify anything he wants and let the chips fall.

I agree. If the context of the document is known you can fill in some of the redactions.

I do strongly doubt stuff is being leaked through the redaction process. Persons that make mistakes in declassifying documents get visits from the the MIB. Make too many and your wearing orange.
