I have a health question that I'm hoping members may be able to share some insights on. Approximately four years ago I got violently sick, had bloating and back pain to the point I needed pain medication -- something I try to avoid. Went to the doctor's and had several large kidney stones. Couldn't break them up so they went through my back to extract them.
Two years later, same symptoms, went to the doctor and had two issue. Pancreas was inflamed and gallstones. They took a biopsy of my pancreas and came back negative and later took my gallbladder out and the inflammation of the pancreas subsided after the gallbladder removal.
Fast forward to a year ago and had a similar attack with same symptoms. I attributed it to a kidney stone due to not staying hydrated on a trip to D.C. where I couldn't drink water and it was in the high 90's. I drink a lot after my first bout of stones.
Couple weeks ago, same symptoms. Went to my gastro doc, they did blood tests to see if it was pancreatitis and came back negative. Fairly sure it wasn't a stone as I had been to my urologist six weeks before and x-rays came back clean.
Gastro guy ordered a colonoscopy because the one I had six years ago they extracted a polyp. Colonoscopy came back good and don't have to have another one for ten years.
My question is, I'm running out of body parts to remove and still having the symptoms. What would you do? Is it possible to form kidney stones in a matter of days? My urologist and gastro docs said my symptoms were in line with stones and gallbladder issues but I'm still having them. I'm a firm believer that we are our best doctors but I'm at a point where they've done all that they can do.
Thoughts? I appreciate any insights. Thank you.
Complicated patients are better served...*much* better served...at a major hospital affiliated with a top medical school.
Tea can cause stones within days. I had them. Had to stop drinking tea, hot or iced.
My husband has (or had) kidney stones. He drinks a daily potion of tonic water, cider vinegar and grape juice. He no longer has problems and it has also eliminated night time leg cramps.
Is it possible the stones are too small to show up on xray? I thought they used ultrasound to look for stones, anyway.
chronic appendicitis comes and goes and can last for years.
good luck...
A family member had some similar issues. He was told to never eat canned tuna and to drink cranberry juice daily without fail.
Fwiw.
A friend had stones and his doctor asked him hw many Cokes he drank daily.
Problem solved.
How is your liver? Hepatic panel test results?
I would go have another X-ray.
It’s a non-invasive test and you never know about kidney stones, especially with the history like yours.
Me too. No longer drinking tea. I drink 2-3 cups of coffee and water.
Drank 3-4 Diet Cokes and my urologist said to stop and haven’t had one since.
Outside of a low white cell count (~3,000), blood came back OK. Gastro wasn’t concerned about the low blood count.
Interesting, I still have my appendix.
Another cause of stones can be poor quality or any quality calcium supplements. Just get your calcium from foods.
For your colon, get your gut bacteria biome in order. Take high quality probiotics especially soil based probiotics (my favorite is Prescript Assist, it really works, Amazon has it). Also fermented veggies if you like them, 1 tbsp a day, even just the juice wold help. And make sure you eat the kinds of resistant starch the bacteria thrive on. You can look it up. Potatoes, other root veggies, oats, white rice. Sometimes people think these foods arent good for us but they are very good for the gut bugs and you dont need much a day.
Good luck! Its frustrating to be undxed.
They did a CAT and rushed him into surgery just a tad late. His appendix burst while they were bagging it.
Then his white blood cell went up.
Get a CAT.
You do NOT want to spend sixteen days in the hospital with a drain in your side.
Gallbladder like pain after gall bladder removal is very common. Bile duct remaining or liver issues can appear.
If all colon kidney issues o.k. look at that residual G. B syndrome.
I have friends who went to Cleveland Clinic and didn’t have enough good things to say about them.
They were fantastic to them and they were very impressed by their expertise and treatment.
Baltimore.
Mr. mm has to be on a salt restricted diet and take potassium supplements and a diuretic and he drinks a lot.
He has stones regularly and has had to have a few blasted. No fun.
His regime seems to have taken care of them.
It all depends on what the stones are composed of, which treatment works the best.
