Harsh Truths About Wealth And Income Inequality
IWB ^ | Daniel Carter

Ever since the Great Recession of 08-09, we have been inundated with news about the growing gap between the rich and the poor. These narratives have been amplified in recent years by the growing influence of socialism in the Western world. Bernie Sanders – the most popular socialist in the US – has galvanized his supporters by talking about the evil doings (real or imagined) of the top 1%. Unfortunately for his impressionable supporters, Bernie’s understanding of wealth and income inequality is extremely limited.

With all this talk of wealth and income inequality in the past few years, I became increasingly interested in the problem myself. To gain a better understanding of the subject, I read a book called The Great Leveler by Walter Scheidel. In this book, Scheidel takes the reader through a long history of inequality from the stone age to the modern era. He starts by examining inequality in groups of primates to show that hierarchy is deeply engrained within our genetic code.

As long as there is an ambition gap, there will always be an income gap.

If you choose to live your life working for someone else, you are going to get what somebody else decides you are worth.

There may be a little more to it than what is presented here, but if “rising to the top” means following Bernie Sanders’ example,I guess that’s why I never did.

“If you choose to live your life working for someone else, you are going to get what somebody else decides you are worth.”

Good luck taking a chunk of entrenched business profits in this era of blatant political corruption.

Become big enough and they’ll hit you with their lawyers, thugs and bought politicians. Fight back and you’re likely to become a “suicide”.

I’ve owned my own business for a long time and this environment saddens me. Money uber alles more than ever and too many people will KILL you for threatening their flow. Too few gentlemen with any vision for the future these days. Mostly money grubbing animals...

You have a point. Republicans want cheap labor. Democrats want voters including those of felons. We get it from both ends but we can stop it. We’ll find out in November which of the 3 is serious.
