It might have been before that...sigh. Time just all runs together in my head now.

“CMP also has great deals on surplus .06 ammo.”

You know something we don’t? They sold out of HXP a while back and don’t have any surplus listed on the eStore?

I could buy an iPhone for that much money.....................if I could afford a cellphone................

How much would that cell phone be worth in 10 years? How much would the Garand be worth?

I have a WWII era (issued during Korean conflict) M1 Carbine that is pristine, right down to the strap. Never fired in anger or used in combat, soldier carrying it was in Alaska. It was produced in Saginaw, MI.

I wonder what it’s worth.
I have an Underwood carbine, all original (a GI bringback is what they call it) manufactured ten weeks into production which does not have the ‘crossed cannons’ cartouche stamp, rather it is marked GHD.

Guy H. Drewy is a legend, and a member of the Ordnance Hall of Fame.

Most carbines were disassembled and then re-assembled before the Korean ‘conflict’. ANY carbine which is complete, and unaltered, by the U.S.Army is considered very collectible ~ I have been offered $7,500 on gun forums, but it is NOT for sale!

(I bought it for $750)

They’re getting back 99,000 rifles that had been on loan to other countries. Ninety-nine thousand. Not exactly my definition of “rare.”

I purchased my M1 Garand from the DCM for $124 in 1981. It had been arsenal reconditioned to like new condition, incorporating the original 1941 manufactured barrel. All parts except the operating rod were Springfield Arsenal manufactured. The operation rod is marked "National Match" and was produced by Remington. That might be a deduct for a collector but is a benefit for me. It shoots exceptionally well.

The mailman left it on my front door step. No paperwork.

I have three friends who have Garands, we went down to the range for Memorial Day one year, and when we were all firing...yeah, people look.

I can’t imagine what it was like to have 200 guys on a range all firing at once with those things...or in battle. No wonder a lot of those guys have hearing trouble!
The only time I fired a Garand was off my buddies back porch - the target was a 55 gallon drum 60/65 yards away.

BOOM! I turned around and saw my bud with his fingers in his ears! Sheeit! My ears were ringing for three days...

Actually, the French Army has a LOT of US weaponry loaned to them after WWII.

For that money you could buy a really nice AR-15.

Nostalgia is nice and I'm sure that they shoot well, but they aren't worth it at that price unless buyers have "money to burn". If that's the case more power to them, I'd stick with the AR-15.

One, yes a better one. I did just buy two Diamondback AR-15 for the price of a single M1. My Armalite Eagle Arms AR-15 cost more, but not sure yet if worth the 2x price of a Diamondback. Definitely prefer an AR-15 over an old M1. Now, if I could buy a functional M1 for $100-200, sure, I would.

I was joking, the Frenchies take the lumps here for sure.

I am pretty sure they were using Garands in Vietnam before and up to Dien Bien Phu. Poor bastards.

I got a ‘Springfield Special’ rebuilt from the CMP about 10 years ago for $995. Worth every penny and it shoots well.

Don’t buy 5365601! You can’t hit anything with it. Find 3335555 and you can’t miss.

A Saginaw with all original Saginaw parts is worth a small fortune.

I think that 99k figure may include the M1 Carbines. They’re bringing back a bunch of those.
