We’re still trying to find out how Houston could have reported over 14,000 votes cast in early voting the day after it opened on Feb. 20. Even more puzzling, was the report in the Chronicle that some 7,500 were cast in person at the polling places. How were the other 50% cast on the first day, certainly not by absentee ballots.

Scary, I hope there’s a method for investigating that mess. I’m in a rural county so it’s a lot different, but having worked as an election judge I know we had pretty picky ways to verify questionable ballots. I wouldn’t want to have to deal with that volume of ballots myself but that number of ballots on day 1 needs to be gone over with a fine tooth comb.
