Do you need a quick shorty shotgun for close quarter firepower? Have a look at Mossberg Shockwave. Youre not gonna need a tax stamp or special approvals to get this short barrel with a high-capacity pump action shotgun. But youll need more ammo.
The Shockwave is technically a "firearm" (Class 3/NFA) due to its 14-inch barrel that shoots a 12 gauge load.
Shockwave also incorporates the "bird's-head" style grip in place of the shoulder stock.
Youtuber Hickok45 had a chance to do some plinking with this awesome shotgun.
So, what seemingly looks like an NFA shotgun is actually classified as a PGO (Pistol Grip Only) firearm. Although some state regulations prohibit the sale of such guns (check with your state police), there is no need for the NFA stamp to legally own the Shockwave. No extra cost, no extra paperwork, no need to wait. Now if we can get this with a 20 round magazine fed, life is good! Check out the full Mossberg Shockwave video here.
I’ve been getting rid of squirrels (who didn’t know better than to stay in the trees and away from my roof) with a Rossi Circuit Judge.
I got it in stainless because I am lazy when it comes to cleaning. Speaking of which...
This is the ideal weapon for close-quarters fightin’. When you hit them with this .12 gauge shorty, they will go down and stay down.
So, is this basically a short barrel Mossberg 500 with a stubby stock?
Seems like it. If you want an intimidating gun, you have to be able to chamber a round with the distinctive "pump action". It sounds cool. Just like in the movies.
I'm not sure why you would want a shotty with a pistol grip unless you intend to conceal it or plan on defending yourself in a closet. I get the real short barrel. But with a pistol grip, you are either firing from the hip or you are trying to hold it out in front of you anyway. I would rather have the control of keeping it against my shoulder for follow up and quick cycle of next round.

I’m with you, I think I’d rather have a standard Mossberg with the 18” barrel.
I inherited my dads after he passed recently. You need a death grip on that thing when you pull the trigger.
That gif makes my wrist hurt.
The 12 guage has been THE shotgun round for, what, 80 years or so now...I dont know that history too well. Whatever happened to the 10 and 8 gauge? Id like to read a write-up on the history of how and when that changed. Ill look it up at work tomorrow.
In my experience, nothing brings order to a chaotic situation like the sound of a 12 ga. racking.

I think it has something to do with the extra short barrel shotgun not being able to have a shoulder stock in order to avoid restrictive ATF regs.
Don’t use High base shells, your wrist won’t like it.
I'll pass. I don't think its worth the risk of being accused, charged and/or possibly convicted of being in possession of a "sawed-off" shotgun.
I should clarify that I DID have these various shotguns - prior to by late-November 2008 TBA
So 3” magnums are maybe not the way to go with this gun?
The 8 gauge is illegal for waterfowl, as market hunters used them (and larger guns) and greatly depleted bird stocks. Plus the guns are very heavy and beat the snot out of you.
Ten gauges are still out there, but not many. Most of what they can do is covered by the 3 1/2” 12 gauge shells.
Add a 20 round magazine? This is a tube feed and the more rounds require longer and longer tubes. There is no 20 round tube but if there was it would be several times longer than the barrel and would likely be hit by pellets if not choked way down. Also, dont rely on the sound of racking a round to end a situation and if you bring a shotgun you better be prepared to use it. Finally, I will take my longer barrel 8 round Mossberg 930 SPX 12 ga semi-auto 8 round over a Shockwave any day. And I also have a Mossberg Chainsaw.
I have a factory pistol grip Mossberg 500 already, with factory 18.5” barrel. Defender or Persuader model.
Can I put the 14” barrel on it? In FL. (Or...ooooooh...cut it?)
