School Shooting Death Wish
The American Conservative ^ | 22 Feb 2018 | Rod Dreher

Because I don’t have cable television, I didn’t watch the CNN “town hall” on gun violence last night. Following the social media commentary, I am glad I didn’t see it. From the descriptions, it seemed all heat, no light. Several thoughtful conservatives I follow on Twitter said the whole thing played like a dream advertisement for the NRA, in that it played right into the fear among gun owners that the Left despises them and is eager to take away their guns.

Cards on the table: I am in favor of a significantly greater degree of gun regulation than many of my fellow conservatives are, and I get as annoyed with right-wing Second Amendment absolutists who insist that any attempt to control guns will lead to a civil liberties apocalypse as I do with left-wing First Amendment absolutists who hold that any attempt to control access to pornography is welcoming Big Brother. That said, it drives me to despair to see how so many on the left demonize guns so thoroughly that they imagine that guns themselves are the prime source of our mass violence problem.

Here’s what I can’t figure out: I grew up in a rural hunting culture, where guns were, and are, widely available. Nothing like this ever happened. If a troubled kid wanted to shoot up his school, the weaponry and the opportunity was there, in spades. But it didn’t happen. It doesn’t happen.

Why not?

Along read but worth it...

Homeschoolers are accustomed to people asking us how we can possibly expect our children to be “socialized” if they don’t go to standard schools. There’s a polite answer that most of us use, but the real answer is something like, “Are you out of your mind?! Socialized to that standard?!”

CK says: “I get as annoyed with right-wing Second Amendment absolutists who insist that any attempt to control guns will lead to a civil liberties apocalypse as I do with left-wing First Amendment absolutists who hold that any attempt to control access to pornography is welcoming Big Brother.”

Someone called CK had a good reply:

The big difference between the two is that there is a large, well funded political movement led by politically active billionaires to eliminate the right of any private citizen to legally own any firearms. There are probably a couple of thousand Christians who want to ban all porn, and they have no political clout and very little wealth. Surely you aren’t naïve enough to think this is a valid comparison.

My views: If someone is in favor of gun control they should try to do it the right way by modifying the 2nd Amendment. As is, the 2nd Amendment pretty much IS absolute.

The purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to prevent a totalitarian government from coming to power. We need it.

Think about the term “gun violence”. I’ve never met a VIOLENT gun. I’ve met some violent people. And THEY will, if disposed to become killers, find ways to kill! Would you also prohibit sale of materials like diesel fuel, ammonium nitrate and steel pipe and fittings - ALL necessary to the functioning of a modern society and innocent enough alone but - as demonstrated by muslim morons - capable of killing hundreds at a time in an instant?
The FBI COULD have kept this idiot in Florida away from his guns BUT THEY WERE TOO BUSY to even INTERVIEW HIM???
And ask yourself WHY - in this highly computerized culture - our various law enforcement agencies DO NOT share background information with one another? Am I paranoid to think that perhaps these sad murders of innocents aid in advancing some totalitarian agenda as they attempt to whip otherwise intelligent people into a frenzy to herd them in a direction they wish them to go? Look up Hegelian Dialectic for starters. There are forces at work in the world today that pay no heed to what most of us consider rules of civilized behavior. They are only guided by what advances their agenda. Does the old phrase “You can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs” come to mind.
Some quotes to ponder:
“A free people should not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might abuse them, WHICH WOULD INCLUDE THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT.” That from George Washington!

And the late DEMOCRAT Senator and presidential candidate Hubert Humphery offered this on the topic:
“The right of citizens to bear arms is just one guarantee against
arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny
which now appears remote in America, but which historically
has proved to be always possible.”
(Ed. Comment: Heavens, how the Democrats have changed!)

And consider the IRONY that the 4th Estate (which has largely morphed into a 5TH COLUMN) always raises the false argument that the Founders never envisioned the advent of weapons like the AR15 and other modern arms. Those 56 men were students of history and the knew well the failings of human nature. They understood that the Constitutional economic and political system they sought to leave as their legacy would produce abundance and liberty for more people than any in history. They ALSO knew that it would spawn advances in technology that would some day make the physical artifacts common in THEIR day the relics they have become in ours. THAT INCLUDED WEAPONS of all sorts!
Now here’s the irony: If one applies to the Second Amendment the media’s claim that ordinary citizens “...the people..” today should ONLY be allowed to possess unrifiled, muzzle loaded flintlock muskets, that “logic” would limit THEM to writing today’s latest “fake news” by dipping quill pens into ink wells and scribbling on parchment!
And for those who still believe that the media are benign innocents simply “journalizing” events here, I’m compelled to add this from Mark Twain:
“Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your HONOR.  That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poorhouse.”

Let me wrap this with a fact MOST humans find so disturbing that they refuse to confront it: MOST OF THE HUMANS KILLED OVER HISTORY WERE MURDERED BY GOVERNMENTS.
It’s called DEMOCIDE and 260 MILLION people died at the hands of a government in just the 20th century.
And THAT is why those of us who still possess critical thinking skills and have families STILL outnumber those who repeatedly call for steps toward the ultimate goal of the left: Total disarmament of this population.

...in that it played right into the fear among gun owners that the Left despises them and is eager to take away their guns.

That's not a baseless fear that's a fact. I joined the NRA 32 years ago when I realized that that is exactly what the left thinks.

“Homeschoolers are accustomed to people asking us how we can possibly expect our children to be “socialized” if they don’t go to standard schools.”

That’s easy! If it is a boy, we hire a group of boys to push him around and take his lunch money. If a girl, we hire a group of girls to tell her she’s ugly and wears funny clothes.

The Crooked News Network launched the greatest recruitment drive for the NRA in its history last night by bringing together the ugliest Americans they could find to heckle and disrespect the two conservatives who ventured into their lair.

The anti-gun mob’s comments were scripted, and Jake Tapper, the “moderator,” lost complete control of the program. (No, we never watch CNN, but we saw it on YouTube today, and Rush couldn’t believe the NRA’s good fortune to have these charlatans to galvanize gun owners everywhere.)

Hmmm. So, the writer seems to have fallen in with the bunch that believes firearms act of their own accord. Drunk driver? The driver not the car or booze company (maybe in some case someone sued a booze distributer or maker.). In France, no one blamed the truck that killed 50+ people. In Africa, when the Hutus and Tootsies (?) went at it, nobody blamed he machetes. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. 😡✌️. 🍿🍻🇺🇸

Because I don’t have cable television, I didn’t watch the CNN “town hall” on gun violence last night...I have cable TV and I never watch anything on CNN - life's too short to waste any of it in listening to inaccurate and more likely deliberately false CNN programming - especially programming which will most likely be populated, scripted, and slanted to push some CNN perverted agenda.....

Dear Rod.

Let’s do a science experiment.

Put a lock and loaded AR 15 on a table. Parade a multitude of people pass the barrel with absolutely no human touching the weapon.

How many humans will be shot?

5.56mm

There have always been people who did horrible things to others. In my opinion, the phenomenon of mass murder in schools results from (1) the concentration of many defenseless people in an enclosed area, and (2) the publicity each one receives.

I did just have another thought. When there is an LEO shooting, it's always the cop and not the firearm. WUTs up with that? Just sayin'. 👹🍿🍻🇺🇸
