I have 100% VA coverage but considered signing up for Medicare for convenience. The rule is if you had employer provided insurance when you became eligible for Medicare there is no penalty. Well, guess what. VA coverage is not acceptable insurance. That means a 10% penalty. For me that would mean an 80% increase in premiums...for life! I won’t be signing up for Medicare

To satisfy IRS health insurance requirements when tax filing?

It certainly is, I received a letter in January from the VA stating my VA coverage meets the requirements of the ACA individual mandate, including the form to file with my tax return.
