Canadian drillers are moving rigs south to the U.S. to seize more profitable opportunities. But its not just the bright prospects of the Permian that is attracting Canadian companiesmoving south of the border has more to do with favorable tax rates and more takeaway capacity and market access opportunities than there is in Canada.
Send our losers to Canada, and Canada can send its winners to America.
1. A large swath of tar sands center Fort McMurray was burned to the ground last year in a massive forest fire.
2. Exchange rates have begun to push more favorably to the Canadian dollar -- making Canadian oil extraction more expensive in U.S. dollars.
3. Canada's government recently rejected a couple of major pipeline projects that would have supported its large Asian export market.
