VEPR AK47 - A Beast
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 1/25/2018 | J Hines

Even after 5000 thousands round, it still Runs For anyone into the AK, then you’ve heard of the Vepr AK47, if not read on. .

The VEPR AK47 platform, is an AKM called the FM-AK47.
Like other AKMs, it’s chambered in 7.62×39.
This is built with RPK machine gun-inspired components and styling. With the 1.5mm thick stamped receiver and FIME Group’s chrome-lined RPK-style barrel, was design to take the heat.
The black, industrial-looking polymer handguards are stainless-steel lined to keep things cool during long term firing.
The polymer stock, saves weight on what might otherwise be a heavy gun. It weighs in at 7.8 pounds with magazine.
The front sight post, safety, charging handle, and overall operation all resembling the old AK styling.
The trigger is a double-stage trigger, with an approximate five-pound pull. The initial take-up is about a quarter-inch. Reset is clear after a short half- inch journey, but not crisp.

These AK enthusiasts went on to run 5000 rounds on the Vepr AK. They also, go the extra mile to dispelled AK47 accuracy myth. For example from the 500 yards at one and a half inch MOA.
Other stress test was applied such as mud, sand and water. This AK lives up to its reputation as being durable. Do you own a VEPR AK47? See the full VEPR AK47 action here.

“For example from the 500 yards at one and a half inch MOA.”

Not sure I believe that.

I have a VEPR chambered for NATO 7.62 x 51. Heavy. Kind of an orphan, too, with respect to parts and accessories.

It’s meaningless. Is it 1 1/2 inches OR 1 1/2 MOA?

Exactly. See results on the plate in the video. USMC used to do better than that to get out of boot camp (via M1 Garand).

Press the barrel into the trunnion with a laser level with something like .0002” runoff, on top of a reinforced RPK trunnion, and it’s not difficult to believe. AKs have come a LONG way in accuracy. Much better than the EU her mallets they used to beat trunnions in with

Do the math.
1.5” at 500yds? Doesn’t pass the smell test even for an AR, and the AK still has the drawbacks of the gas piston mass moving during the shot.

No matter how well they make them, still not buying 1.5” @ 500 yds.

Few shots are taken at 500 yards. If they are, its usually done with a bolt action, fine optics, and a prone position.

This is an example of the “proficiency bias” in media.

People tend to assume that media talking heads are qualified to know what they are talking about.

But when they report on something that is within your own personal area of expertise, you can spot the glaring errors and stupid mistakes.

So what makes anyone think that are more well-informed on anything else? A newsman cannot be an expert in everything.

The answer is that they are not- they are just reading a script handed to them.

(one would assume a WRITER for an article, as in this instance, would know more... but it still applies)

I believe he meant 1.5 MOA.

Furthermore, out of a 16 inch barrel, a 125 grain 7.62x39 doesn’t fall below subsonic until 550-600 yards, meaning the round is still stable in flight. Theoretically, if your barrel is affixed in such a way so that the barrel harmonics allowed the barrel whip to retain its EXACT SAME axis relative to the sights, then yes, it would be very possible. It would take match grade ammunition and a barrel of sufficient length to burn all the powder, but not so long that the powder is all burnt before the muzzle is reached by the projectile. I’m well aware of the math AND the build methods. I saw a rifle dynamics video two years ago of this very thing, though I lack the machinery to duplicate it in my AKs.

I assure you, it can be done. People have a mindset that AKs are inherently inaccurate. This is getting less and less true.

I really like the 7.62x39 round, and I’m also not sure I believe it.

At 250 yards, maybe, but doubtful at 500 yards. And, not that I am a great shot or anything, but it would take a far better marksman than I to get 1-1/2” MOA at 250 yards.

Sort of like the olde saying: "If the tools not right, the fool's not bright."

My AK's are for use when the deer herd gets within 100 yds...Have much better tools when they are between 100-to-600 yds...Even have one tool that, on a good day, might be good up to 1500 yds...

If the herd gets within 10 yds. I put on a pair of track shoes and run...Although, at 84, that's probably not a great option...

I have no doubt that however fast you run, you will be moving at Superluminal speed.

A superluminal phenomenon is a frame of reference traveling with a speed greater than the speed of light c. There is a putative class of particles dubbed tachyons which are able to travel faster than light.
