The New York Times is Wrong—Immigration Won’t Make America Great Again
National Economics Editorial ^ | January 14, 2018 | Spencer P Morrison

In 1014 AD the Byzantine Emperor Basil II defeated the Bulgar hordes at the Battle of Kleidion. To ensure the Bulgars would never again rise up against him, Basil blinded the survivors—leaving every hundredth man with a single eye. The one-eyed led their brothers home, but mostly the blind led the blind.

How many Bulgars were separated from their kin on their anabasis? How many died in the Thracian wilderness—food for worms and wolves? A hand slick with blood loses its grip, and in the frantic search for fingertips a dozen followers are led astray. Those behind don't panic. They don't know—East or West all steps are the same. Only when it's too late do they realize they're lost.

What happened at Kleidion—tragic though it was—serves as a powerful allegory. It reminds us that the blind lead the blind, and that most are blissfully unaware of this fact. We assume our leaders have eyes to see, that they know where they're going. Often they don't.

Unfettered immigration and globalization politics with imbalanced trade agreements have just about destroyed the spirit of this nation.

Working exactly as the progressives planned.

By making it harder to get into the USA and by being more selective in who is admitted,Trump is increasing the value of all American citizens’ citizenship, helping to make America Great Again.

When you restrict the supply of anything, don’t be surprised if the value goes up!

Illegal immigration brings the squalor and poverty of the Third World to our metropolitan areas. One need only observe to know that.

First, America is great, although it has many current problems. Second, immigration works when the people who immigrate want to integrate - not when they want to supplant those who are here, and absolutely not if they resent those who are here already. It doesn't work like that.

Over the past several decades I've heard so many ‘news’ stories and commentary about how Hispanics are going to become the majority in the US, how Muslims are going to ‘outbreed’ the West, how those of Mexican heritage are going to ‘take back Aztlan’, how ‘people of color’ are going to be the majority, etc. etc. What does this mean, really? It means to me that those who identify not primarily as Americans, but as the ethnic and/or racial group they belong to are celebrating their eventual ‘victory’ over those who aren't like them - specifically white America. I can't think of another example of racism that is more defined than that. If that is how current Americans and those who want to become Americans think about fellow Americans, then we are lost.

To be great again, the U.S. needs to provide shelter for the millions of Christians who are under threat of persecution worldwide, become a Christian nation again, banish gay marriage and abortion, send the recalcitrant liberals off to exile in Europe, and teach the bedrock values of Western Civilization to the generation to come.

Dear democats. Name one city that would benefit by being more crowded and having more traffic. Besides, I thought you were against increasing global warming, and what better way to increase global warming than maximizing the number of people utilizing first world resources?
