I have a bad habit of saying what i intend to say.
Spring of 2007, excluding DVD rentals and streaming movie services today.
10:00pm. During the week I stop at 11:00pm, right after Hogan’s Heroes.
“Its been exposed time and time again the Jerry springer uses fake guests its slapstick TV.”
I’ll bet you think wrestling is fake also!
It all went downhill after the last episode of Topper was broadcast.
Stopped watching TV for news since I discovered FR and I really mean that. Jim Robinson’s site posts those headlines which affect our lives the most, and the comments that follow are both thoughtful and well reasoned.
I value the opinions of fellow FReepers more than any TV talking head; the more responses to a particular thread, the more important it is to me and the more closely I read & evaluate.
Thank you, FRiends!
When Fonzie jumped over that fish when skiing . . . Anybody remember that?
And that’s cool.
It’s not revisionist history...it’s fiction.
1 October 2016.
Never miss it.
My wife still watches a few shows, but when they finally cancel Criminal Minds and Tom Selleck passes on, don’t think she will have a reason to watch anymore. I quit many years ago, used to watch the occasional ball game but quit that too.
I’ll still watch old B/W movies/westerns, but nothing much else.
I don’t watch ANY of the alphabet channels, for anything; I gave up on FOX News because of the final two shows I would watch - Hannity and Dobbs - they would NOT shut up and let the guests talk, and they incessantly interrupt the guests. I just got tired of it.
I go to dialysis, and each bed has a private TV, but I never turn it on. I’ve put a couple hundred oldies but goodies on an old I-phone, and use it as an I—pod, and listen to music, and sleep through the four hours.
So now...old movies, and westerns, is about it. The rest of the time I spend on FR and the net.
I stopped watching TV about 40 years ago. I catch occasional premium quality episodes on Netflix, but primarily I watch movies. Watching TV is like opening a sewer portal into your living room, between the programs and the filthy suggestive commercials. No thanks.
Quoting Newton Minow now, are we?
Well, to be honest, tv has gotten a little better recently.
In fact, I'd say that now the wasteland was only half-vast.

2003
It’s a little difficult to understand political speech and candidates after avoiding TV for so long, though. The minds of political people are full of junk from television, so it’s very difficult to understand them or good candidates (like Trump) who appeal to them in terms of TV fiction and memes.
We watch online, so really no TV for at least 8 or so years.
I switched from the tv screen to the computer screen a year or two ago.
I surf web sites which sometimes have video links (like this one). I eatch occasional you tube videos. I watch occasional Netflix movies or series as recommended by friends or family I stay with them if I like them.
But broadcast tv? Thats over. I still have a tv. I could play the rare dvd on it if I wanted. And if a big national event like 911 happened again I might watch but then again I could watch on my computer.
YES!
Discernment is the key here.
I did get rid of my expensive cable 1 1/2 years ago and chose a better, cheaper option in Sling TV and HD over-the-air TV for local channels.
It does amaze and frustrate me that too many think their TV has some control over them.
It shouldn't unless you allow it to.
