Task Force Faith, a scratch force of Army personnel scrounged up from a motley collection of units, probably kept the Marines
from being outflanked. That was an epic stand reminiscent of the 300 at Thermopylae. Of course, the price paid by TFF was horrendous, with 90+% casualties (killed, wounded, MIA and captured).
Yes, I watched that documentary on Netflix. A gripping story thats been overlooked and a travesty how that particular regiment was thrown into battle, then essentially abandoned by senior commanders and had to fight their way out. Its a wonder that there were any survivors at all from those units.
