By now, President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-uns war of words is a familiar tune, but many wonder whether their publicly exchanged insults and in particular, those within Trumps tweets could actually start a war. As it turns out, according to Suzanne DiMaggio (a member of a non-partisan think tank who has recently engaged in back-channel discussions with multiple senior North Korean officials), Pyongyang is fascinated with Trump, and leaders want to know why he acts and thinks the way he does.
Indeed, no one can deny that America has never had a president quite like Trump. And North Korea is used to crazy leaders, but theyre not sure how to interpret Trumps unpredictable maneuvers and manner of speech. In a new Politico feature, DiMaggio reveals how Pyongyang analyzes Trumps tweets and cant figure out whether hes faking his dramatic flair and why he undermines his secretary of states efforts:
I think they really want to know what is his end game. They want to know if hes crazy, or if this is just an act. Is this a good cop/bad cop that hes doing with Tillerson? These are the sorts of questions that they have. They follow the news very closely; they watch CNN 24/7; they read his tweets and other things. So, theyre very much attuned to what hes doing, what hes saying. Theyve certainly been following what hes doing in Asia. Theyll probably even have more questions after this Asia trip.
The Politico piece also functions as a discussion with John Witt, a John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies scholar, who points out that North Koreans are perceived worldwide as not only crazy but reckless, yet theyre bewildered while trying to understand how to deal with Trump. Lately, Kim Jong-un has tabled the insults in exchange for eerie indifference, which is an unsettling development. After all, the North Korean foreign ministry has already accused Trump of declaring war within a speech, so the idea of boots on the ground is something theyre probably keeping close to their sleeve, so to speak.
In related news, North Korea has fired off a letter to the United Nations secretary-general. In the note, North Koreas UN Ambassador Ja Song Nam accuses the U.S. of creating the worst ever situation by stationing three U.S. aircraft carriers in the waters surrounding the Korean Peninsula.

Hey, NK, don't spit into the wind....
Yep.

There's your trouble.
So DiMaggio's hit-piece streak is ended before it began.
A non-partisan with back channel communication with the chi coms? What??
Still trying to pull for the hes crazy angle and to state that our Presidents tweets are worse, sheesh. We truly are surrounded by brainwashed morons.
So are the commies in our own Nation.
Ever see a bunch of kids looking at a stray dog, trying to determine whether it’s nice or mean? Since they don’t know much about dogs, they’ll read things into every movement, like if the dog licks its lips they’ll think it is getting ready to bite when in fact it’s just licking like dogs do. But no one of them wants to be the first to go up and try to pet the dog, not knowing for sure.
If this analogy holds true, I’d say Trump and his Tweets and approach to Nork are having exactly the desired effect.
Trump is simply turning the table on the bully, which is a good tactic
‘they watch CNN 24/7’
They will never have a clue.
Look...he really is short and fat. President correct.
So, in other words, the Stalinist North Korean leaders and the Communist-infested US mainstream media and their closely-related Democrat political establishment comrades are a lot alike.
Hmmm... Who wudda thunk it...
Yes, but fortunately the POTUS would never actually say such a thing about Un.
Jk.
“They follow the news very closely; they watch CNN 24/7;”
We may accidentally have found the source of their problems.
